Hello

I'm looking for a bit of advice.

We bought an Isabella Magnum large proch awning last summer and found it to be great quality but due to arthritus setting in we're looking to sell it and buy one of these sun canopy come zip awnings as they appear lighter and a lot easier to put up, obviously as the main part is permenantly attached to the top of the van. Before we splash out for one as they are about £600, i would feel a little happier if i could get some feedback and pro's and con's from anyone out there who has used them as its a fair amount to pay out for and then find its a hassle to put up or anything along those lines.

In anticipation!!!

From memory, most caravan manufacturers do not recommend them, particularly if you are going to drive along with it fixed to the caravan. It puts strain on the awning rail and can potentially affect towing dynamics

That said, I have a friend who has had one for years and he loves it - obvious benefits are that they are quick and easy to put up and take down. Downside though is potential damage to the caravan etc.

Personally I would look for a simple sun canopy such as the one made by NR (

carolyn, id try rolling one up first. If as you say your arthritus inhibits the erection of a porch I would think twice before buying.

there is quite alot of stretching to roll it up and if you are limited will take 2 of you to do.

The sides and front will be no different to put up than a normal awning including zipping on and pegging out, the only thing I can see you will be saving is the threading of the awning as its already there.

I would be an expensive mistake if you couldnt manage it.

How about one of the new style light porch, although you still have to put it up and peg it out, but you havent got any weight to worry about.

Wow! Thanks everybody..really helpful, in fact so much so that we probably wont now get one! I must say we're away at the mo and have been watching a couple next to us rolling one up each night and it does seem to be quite an 'artform'! So back to the drawing board.

Really helpful forum...
