Can anyone recommend any particular make of sun canopy? We dont want a full awning - just something to offer a bit of shade and to give a bit of protection from the odd shower.

I can't help as such, but I have been looking at these and they seem disproportionately expensive for what you get. I looked at one in my local caravan dealer and it seemed very delicate. I have decided to get a light weight easy to set up 'dome tent' style porch awning instead.

If it is just a basic Sun Canopy you want then have a look at Isabella's "Shadow".

I have had one since they were introduced and its one of the best caravan purchases we have ever made.

It very easy to put up and take down single handedly taking less than 5 minutes. It stand reasonable amounts of wind but if there is a side wind a windbreak is needed.

Thanks to all for your replies. Some useful suggestions - I think I will have a look at the Dorema as they have a good reputation and seem to be fairly sturdy at a reasonable price.

We bought a Dorema sun canopy last year and we were very pleased with it. So easy to use and last year it was more of a rain canopy in that it kept the immediate area outside the caravan, chairs etc. dry in all that rain!! Would recommend one.

We bought a canopy from NR Awnings - excellent for shade and keeping furniture / barbeque dry in the rain.

One word of caution - they are not very stable in high winds as they are only supported by 3 poles plus guylines.

I like the ones all Dutch caravanners seem to have - a canopy which extends out about as far as a normal awning, grey acrylic roof, but then with two side 'windows' of clear perspex which slope backwards towards the van at the bottoms. They are obviously 'fitted' in that you see them on different sizes of van, still with two windows.

They always seem quite robust, even comparing with our Trio awning which we use as a sunshade, without the side and end panels - and don't seem to move around too much in the wind. I've never seen them on sale over here, though.

We've had a Fiamm aZIP for 3 years now. Totally fantastic. Sun canpoty with 2 legs stays on the side of the van, zipped away in a pouch. there are sides and a front that you can zip on if you wish to, depending on how much shelter you need/want. there's no sign of this wearing out, but if it does I would not hesitate to get another.

We've had an NR Sun Canopy for a few years now. I have yet to get it to stand well as it only has 3 vertical poles. It would be better if it had 3 roof poles as well. I would not get another one:-(
