Hi Robin

Would be surprised if you can use a storm strap with the Sunncamp.

As I mentioned another thread that's why we chose a conventional awning.

The Outdoor Revolution Compactlite and the Apache Monte Carlo which are similar awnings have them fitted as standard. Was very impress with both but the Outdoor Revolution is cheaper than the Apache and 25 cms longer.

Don't know if you've purchased the Sunncamp yet but if not have a look at the Outoor Rev first it certainly looks as if it'll take the weather better and like I've said it has storm straps fitted standard.

I saw a german chap using a storm strap on a Sunncamp 260. He had the strap on the outer edge and angled the sides back to the caravan. Mine stayed up throughout the strong winds without a strap but it took four of us to get it down. But with a standard awning I would have had similar problems getting it down.

We have two awnings, the 260 and the original porch awning.

The 260 is pretty useless when you have strong end winds, which tend to blow the awning along the awning rail, tried fixing to the caravan handles, it stops the movement but increases the noise value. It is superb when the weather is sunny with very light breaze.

This is where the original Porch awning comes in handy, with the two cross over flexible poles and the middle flexible that secures the sides against the caravan walls, is great when the winds are strong.

People might be puzzled by what I do, but we bought the original porch awning, before the larger porch awning was manufactured, had we bought the larger version, no way would we have bought the 260.

We went the way of these light weight awnings because my shoulders have stopped me from erecting the very heavy normal ones.

Devices are available that you thread into the awning rail (one either side of the porch awning) and tighten up with a butterfly nut. They are very effective at stopping the awning sliding.
