Hi Jo-anne

I've got one of those earlier Base Camp 260s, same as Sun Camp. The one you want is one section bigger.

Dead easy to erect. Mine has 3 small poles plus one internal cross beam pole. If pegged properly it will withstand fairly heavy weather but not as good as the Izzy.

Hunt around , there are always good bargains to be had on these lightweights.

Cheers

Alan

Hi Jo-anne,

We bought a Sunncamp Ultima 390 earlier this year. Used it three times for about a total of four weeks and quite pleased with it. As others have reported on other threads it can be a bit of a pain to get the ends to stay close to the caravan sides particularly on pitches that are not pefectly level but nothing that I can't live with. Don't expect too high a quality of material or workmanship but at the price you can't complain really. I found the best price for the Ultima was from :

brilliant these lightweight awnings we've got a Sun Camp 260 small than the one you're talking about i know but the principal is the same.

taking ours down this morning i had a night mare, firstly the elastic came out of one of the fibre glas pole section and then a spring from on eof the cross sections broke...aall in about 20 seconds. This is our second season of using it just for weekends.

Any one know how to replce or repair ???

Hi - we bought a Sunncamp 260 and it's has been great for the money but had the problem of it not fitting neat to the van. In winter it was freezing, however, we were in Somerset recently and popped into Highbridge Caravans (www.higbridgecaravans.co.uk) and there was an awning there called a 2008 P.A.C.K. 390 New Porch and they do it in the 260 size basically the same as the Sunncamp but it has a pole and cushion at the back that fits the awning flush to the van, can't comment on how good they are as we did not buy one but these would definately be worth a look before purchasing any of the others on the market. I think Highbridge deliver as well.

Hi again - I said before we didn't buy one but did go out and buy an Isabella Magnum part awning, definately harder to put up but the fit to side of the van is brilliant and also there is no material flapping against the side of van. The noise of this can get pretty irritating. But I hate to put the awning down because it has had more than it's use and it's still goingstrong.

Sorry to put a dampner on things but thought you may appreciate another view on the Ultima. We have the 260,and have used it for less than 20 nights away.I am sorry to report that we are very dissappointed with it.

Ours leaks unbelievably-not through the seams as you may expect but in a recent shower water was simply pouring through the fabric on the roof. There are no rips or tears-it was just flowing through.Everything in the awning got soaked through-thank goodness we dont keep anything electrical in there. I have never seen an awning like that before-we videoed it to show the dealer as we will be taking it back. I would expect to maybe waterproof seams etc after a few months use but for it to have lost all water-proofness in the fabric in less than 3 weeks use-I dont think so.

On a brighter note,it is light and easy to erect, but for us an awning that cannot cope with a summer shower is not what we need.

Hope thats helpful-it someone had told me this before I bought mine I would of been grateful.

Sorry to hear about your missfortune with your 260 awning we have had one for 3 yers now and boy have we survived some heavy rain storms, not a drip, guess you may have one that missed the weatherproofing bit, you can get spraycans where you reproof your awnings, I know my daughter bought one when her sunshade awning they bought seconhand developed leaks in parts of the canvas, did the job okay.

Just to add to my earlier post. Yest aft went to a large local dealer to see what other porch awnings they had.Spoke to a member of staff and explained I had a lightweight porch that leaked badly. He said "Dont tell me its a suncamp Ultima! We had so many come back we no longer sell them anymore." Maybe my probelm is not a one-off!

Had a 390 for nearly 3 years and it has been superb. In terms of usage, I use it probably one or twice a month and have had it up in some major, major weather with no problems. Yes the sides can flap a little in wind but you expect that when they are not supported.

I got mine from ebay, where there are usually quite a few for sale.

For the cost they are worth a punt. They are roomy, take all my kit and with every panel having windows are very bright. I cannot see any difference between a full awning or this one when inside them apart from one takes minutes to put up the other does not!

Interesting to read all the comments on this awning. I ordered one yesterday after doing a bit of research. Talking to some caravanners over the weekend, they suggested using "Ducktape" to seal the sides. They had been advised by a caravan mechanic that Ducktape wouldn't harm the caravan bodywork, although other types of sticky tape could potentially do some damage? Any views?

We bought the pack 390 in march. It is much better than the sunn camp with regards to sealing around the caravan and also has inside and outside pegging facility. However during our lovely wet and windy summer holiday my awning could not cope and at first leaked, then the galeforce winds bent the inner steel poles and the flexibles turned inside out so that the awning was flat aganist the caravan during the gusts. We were not quick enough to empty the awning and get it down before the wind ripped off the guy ropes on the awning. Ended up throwing the awning in the bin.

Regards

Ian

Totally agree, mine leaks like a big leaky thing.

total rubbish if anything more than a light shower.

we used to keep the dogs in their cage in the awning when we went shopping etc, but had to put an umbrella over their cage in case it rained..........not exactly a good arrangement.

the same happened to our 290, treaded thin wire through the the pole & pulled the broken elastic through part way to the nearest joint then tied the two ends together so that the Knot settled in the joint/socket. theycan be bought from suncamp for about

Just came accross this post while researching Maplin satellite dish kits - had been expecting to get one of the tunnel type awnings when we picked up our new van (now imminent!) - see there's a new one on the market - Kampa Rally in 260 and 390.

Looks promising, combination of fibreglass and steel poles I think. More expensive - anyone seen one yet? Will there be one at NEC next month?

We have also just bought an Ultima 260. Will be using it for the week Feb half term.

It seems a great bit of kit for the price. Tightness against the van doesn't bother me. We had an NR porch and even with the pole in heavy winds you would get wind coming through the sides. Every porch will have this problem. Only fulls manage to prevent it.
