Sunncamp Ultima 260problems

I've got a Sunncamp Ultima 260 porch awning which I can never get tight against the side of the caravan. It all came to a head this weekend when the closest I could get it was at least 6" from the van so I got wind and rain inside the awning. Hasanyone else had similar problems? Having looked at it from the side, together with my mate who was away with us, it seems that unless the ground slopes down and away from the van, then the side of the awning will not seal which leads me to think that the poles need to be shorter. The top of the side door on the awning was not level but rose up away from the van. Any ideas anyone before it goes on Ebay and I buy a conventional porch awning?

I also have the same problem although it's not a SunnCamp.
I did read sometime ago of someone else having this trouble and they cut 2" off each pole which cured it. I haven't got this far yet though to test whether it works although looking at the problem in theory it should do.
If you're braver than me and try it let me know how you get on

I had similar problems with the Ultima 390, plus at times rain water would pool in one section of the roof, rainwater coming in through various seams in heavy showers (this despite me having gone round all the seams with awning seam sealant).
Problem solved by putting the 390 in permanent storage in the garden shed and buying conventional type porch awning. Yes it's heavier, takes two to erect and a liitle bit more time to do but it doesn't leak, fits at the sides and I don't need to worry about going away on a wet day and returning to find the awning roof burst where the rain water had pooled. the Ultima is alright for the money and fine for fair weather.

Rob, mine leaks too and pools water! It does seem as though they haven't got it quite right somewhere between the design stage and manufacturing it. I've even checked the height of the van just in case it was too low but at 235cm, it's a the lower end of the tolerance. I may contact Sunncamp to see what they think/suggest.

In fairness mine doesn't pool and a few weeks ago it had a good testing at Low Moor. We had 3 days of torrential rain and gales.
The two tension poles seem to stop the pooling and there were no leaks inside or dampness/dripping from the roof from condensation. Probably because the wind got in through the sides and stopped it keeping it aired.
My problem is the sides as mentioned. During a lull in the storms on the third day I took the awning down simply because due to the winds and the tension I'd put on the three fibre glass poles, I was frightened that they would break.
During the winds none of my pegs had loosened so all was good on that front. I just wish they would address the gaps in the side problem.

Hi Forbes.
We had the "390" model and can honestly say that weve had no problems whatsoever with ours.
The 2 upright poles sit about 1 inch from side of van,no water pooling on roof and no leaks at all.
If you have the tops of the poles correctly situated in the "sleeves" at the top of the awning, the poles should then point straight down until they reach the floor, then wrap the 3 tapes around the poles on each side.
We found it a great 3/4 size awning for our last van but have now sold it due to buying a bigger van and splashing out on a full awning.

I've put it up correctly but it still doesn't sit right. Oh and it leaks through various seams. I've emailed Sunncamp who have not replied as yet but I don't hold out much hope there anyway. My previous awning, a Base Camp one of the same design did sit against the van although it wasn't a great seal. Cheaper may be better in this case!

I cut 3 inches off the poles of my 2008 sunncamp & find that the sides fit much better, but no matter how much seam sealer I use I can't stop the leaks from the seams over the front windows
Just remove the rubber cap on the end of the poles cut off 2 " replace the cap & see if it fits better just cut off more if needed

I've spoken with Sunncamp and they've said that my van may be too lowfor the awning! My awning rail is 235cm high which is right at the bottom end of the tolerance hence why the awning won't sit level and seal. The chap I spoke to said he had to trim his poles to get it right too! I might try that but he also said seam selaeron the seamsinside to stopleaks. Ho hum.

I put up with the problems listed for 2 years, chucked the awning into our local tip, bought myself a Kampa 260 awning much superior porch awning, assy is much easier, where you had 3 very long bendy fibre poles, the Kampa , has 3 poles in two pieces, the part that you fit into a sleeve is a stronger fibre pole, which slots into a external metal pole which is attached to the awning by plastic clips, that has 3 adjustable height settings which allows the awning to fit close to the caravan.

I've been looking at this awning online Royston along with a similar one from Outdoor Revolution. Does it come with the cushions that fit to upright poles to keep out the draught between the awning and caravan wall? Also the tensioning poles for the roof?
The one I have is a Dorema 260 which isn't 12 months old yet. I could try to cut 2 inches off the poles but if that doesn't work I will have probably spoilt the awning which means I can't sell it secondhand.

Hi LB, the vertical cushions that are held against the caravan are part of the awning, the upright poles are slotted into the awning (like the horizontal poles that are fitted in your suncamp )
The latest Kampa awnings have 3 additional items that my original Kampa has:-
1) storm straps are included .
2)the lower part of the steel tubes that are fixed external to the awning, which mine have 3 positions in height, they have a slightly different arrangement, does the same application though.
3)they have additional spring roof tensioners that stop the rain from forming pools of water in the sloping roof.
The price has gone up since I purchased mine , the 260 sells around £250 pounds.
trust this of help to you.

You guys need my spare Dorema Toronto. Water proof, sits snug up to the sides and has poles that don't damage the caravan side!
Reasonable offers considered.

I want something that's easy and quick to put up DD. One day some clever wag will come up with a way of impregnating the awnings with Viagra so that they will become self erecting saving us all time and marital stress from arguing.
