Swift Accord 2003 Truma Caravan Heater

Hi all, I have just got back from 2 lovely wet weeks in the North of England. Whilst 'up north' it got a bit cold one evening, as it does in August in England, so I decided to give my a Caravan heater a go.

When switching on the little green light in the knob of the Ultraheat thermostat briefly flickered on and then went off, consequently there was no heating using the onsite mains.

I checked all my fuses that I could find and they are all good.

The blown air works fine but the heater waon't get warm using mains.

Does or has anyone had the same problem, are there any other things that I can check ?? The handbook for the Truma is very vague. I would like to have a go at fixing this myself so any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Paul,

You should have three heat settings for the Ultraheat - did you get the same result on each setting?

You might want to try turning the fan off - and allow the electrical heater to warm up for (say) 5 minutes on the 500 Watt setting before turning on the fan.

You might want to check that you don't have a remote temperature sensor - and that it's not turned all the way down.

And it's not unknown for one of the relays on the relay control board (which switches power to the heater) to fail prematurely - the other settings might still work... If this is the case, then it's possible to get uprated relays or an upgraded board - simple replacement.

Yes it does happen on all three settings so believe that your theory about the relays may be correct. How easy is it to remove the circuit board as the front of the fire is on the outside of the wardrobe enclosure and the rear of it is in the wardrobe enclosure by the wheelarch.

Also, is there anywhere that I can get the PCB diagram??

The Ultraheat derives it's own 12v supply for control from a small transformer on the control pcb, this has a habit of packing in hence no green light on the switch.

After that, there are two thermostats for overheat protection, these can be seen from the front behind the gas fires flue pipe where it leaves the heater, again these can pack up which cuts the 240v to the control pcb so again no 12v.

Access to the control pcb is over the back although the fan will need to come out the way. Not sure about the thermostats, might need the fire out to get at them, if this is the case I'd suggests it's refitted professionally
