I bought a new Challenger 480 in May 2009 and you could not wish for a better 2-berth. However, I have one infuriating problem – the squeaky bathroom floor!
There seems to be an interaction between the floor and the front of the shower cubicle and the same noise can be created by pressing the front of the ‘step-in’ part of the cubicle. This problem existed from day 1 and the dealer ‘cured’ this at the time by spraying silicone fluid round the floor at the base of the shower cubicle. I have tried this again but to no avail. In the intervening time it has not bothered us until this year. (Maybe it’s because Anno Domini requires us to visit the bathroom more during the night!!).
I know a similar problem was posted by James S in Mar 2009 with his Challenger 530 (same bathroom) to which Andy of Swiftgroup responded as likely to be a known problem of the shower screen rubbing on the shower tray upstand. I don’t think my problem is the same as I have looked closely for that problem and expect that the ‘fix’ that Andy mentioned would have been incorporated in mine by May though I appreciate only the VIN No. will determine that.
So Andy, if you are still out there, I would appreciate your comments or from anyone else that may be able to help I will be obliged.
Further Note:
Before sending this post I had a final check in the caravan and found the squeak had disappeared!! It then became obvious that the ambient temperature had risen to 26deg C. I tried it again late evening when the internal temp indicated 23deg and the squeak was back. The best ambient temp we have had on trips this year have been about 18Deg. This seems to indicate an expansion/contraction problem. I am thinking of drilling a hole in the shower upstand and filling with expanding foam to tighten things up but I would dearly like to know more about the construction below the shower tray.
