Hi Malcolm,

Sorry to hear about your issue. The hinge bar you refer to is a standard part, used in most of our lockers, but clearly, it should not shear at either end.

You need to see your dealer, who will be able to submit a warranty claim to us, but if you would like us to get involved, please send me an e-mail with your details (name, address, chassis number and dealer name), and I will gladly look into it.

Thanks,

Ash

Ash,thankyou for the reply.the caravan is with a swift approved dealer with the problem being persued under warranty.however what concerns me is that if the failed part is replaced and fitted in the same manner as the original, then in my opinion it will fail again.the reason i say this is because this top member has to support three powerful hinges and was not fitted with the swift patented plastic 'shelf support'.far too many screws were inserted at each end weekening the cross member and the result was it sheared across the horizontal screw hole at each end.i have looked in a previous model of the same van and this had the plastic shelf support fitted to the lefthand side,(away from the microwave)

question- should my van have been fitted with this shelf support?have you at swift experienced the same failures in any other customers vans?

i look forward to your comments.

Hi Malcolm,

We are not aware of a common problem with the hinge bar in the overhead lockers 'shearing'. We do, as you correctly state, pre-drill and screw into the end-grain of the hinge bar, but again, have not had problems with this in the past.

Depending on which locker is in question, some lockers are constrcuded using the Swift light-weight plastic locker ends, and some use traditional end panels.

If you have a microwave fitted that is secured using a timber rail across the top of the microwave then you will not have a plastic shelf support as you have described.

Thanks,

Dave

dave, thankyou for your comments.

if i understand you correctly you are suggesting that the replacement support be fitted in the same manner as original

Hi Malcolm,

As we only have one proven way to fit the hinge bar, when the plastic dividers are not present, I would suggest that the same attachment and fixing method be used.

Thanks,

Ash
