Swift cooker grill & Cassette toilet

Yes I know, a strange combination. Not connected, just coincidental. (1) On our new Swift the cooker grill does not light properly all along its length,(about four jets in the middle of the run that just have a very tiny flame) this is the same on both sides rather than just random jets.

And (2) on our cassette the sliding cover that is over the seal when you pull out the cassette seems not to work properly, basically it falls out of its guides. Looking at the housing it appears that there is a moulding in the plastic that is supposed to catch the cover to slide it back & forth over the seal when you insert/remove the cassette.

Anyone else had these problems? I realise I will probably need to take it back to the dealers but it would be useful to know if they are common problems. Otherwise very pleased with quality of our Swift. (apart from the perennial problem of external locker doors-battery compartment etc, not locking/unlocking properly and the cable 'cut out' being nothing like good enough to accommodate the cable without it being squashed in the door-as with my last van I have had to file it out to get the cable in at all! although still not ideal, but these is not new problems on any van as far as I can see, do not understand how this can still be an issue after all these years)

Happy caravanning to all.

Hi Bill, your grill burner is designed to work in that way, apparently gives a even heat pattern that's according to the manufacturers, the slide on the toilet is a known problem, there is a modification available, your dealer should have fitted it at PDI, get them also to check the rubber drain pipe for the toilet flush, this also is subject to a modification, both are easily fitted and only takes a couple of miniutes.

Thanks for that, had another look at the grill burner with a torch, actually there are not any jets or holes in the middle section so I guess that is the way it is designed.

Hi Dave, The mod on the slider is a small lug which holds it in place and the drain tube has an extra vane which seals the plug, very small changes but they work, had no more trouble with mine since i fitted them.

Senator S6 Wyoming 18 months old and also friends Indiana same vintage. Toilet cassette jammed on both vans and couldn't extract/get back in. Dealer replaced both under warranty in Jan service and so far ok. said it was the orange retaining catch at the external end not engaging sufficiently. Is this the same problem or is there a new one?

Flush drain hose. Can you explain a bit more. Unbeknownst to me, mine froze overnight during that cold spell and popped the bung out then spurted the whole contents out down the inside of the pedestal cover, soaking the carpets when it eventually unfroze and we were out all day. Does your extra vane mod fix such because I was going to put a longer pipe and inline plastic tap directly down thro' the floor (and b****r the damp warranty). If there's something quicker and free.............

Thanks for your replies. Just had another weekend away and the toilet has gone from bad to worse, basically it does'nt work, will have to get it looked at. I spotted other people on site with the same cassette, the one with orange wheels and extending handle and they said the suffered the same problems. Did a search on the forum and was surprised that there were so few complaints and even more surpised that Thetford do not appear to have solved the problem which seems to go back a year or more, mine is on a 2 month old van.

Bill D from your description this is the Thetford C250 casette?

I have a new Lunar with this fitted - I am finding that there is a collection of fluid in the bottom of the compartment after use - so obviously 100% of the liquid is not getting into the casette - is this the same as your problem ?

I am obviously going to have to take it back to the dealer but if it is a common fault that is known I am going to be a little bit annoyed (had assumed it was just my bad luck).

Hope you get a speedy resolution

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon, yes we had the same last weekend. Used the van 3 times from new so far. 1st time lever a bit sticky but thought this was just newness, otherwise worked ok. 2nd time became more difficult to operate and when I removed cassette to empty, the cover over the seal fell off. 3rd time cover would not uncover properly when the cassette was inserted and would not cover properly when removed. Managed to get the flap to open after much juggling so left it like that. On removal of cassette found fluid in the bottom of the compartment exactly as you found. I am phoning dealers tomorrow so will keep posted.

Anyone from Thetford interested enough to read these posts? (I know Swift do and it is a Swift van)

Follow up to cassette toilet problem.

Took van into dealers who raised the height of the cassette. It looks as if they cemented a couple of plastic strips on the bottom of the cassette compartment. Not been away yet to try it in anger but everything appears to work as it should and no leaks.

That makes very interesting reading Bill, so we are not alone with our loo problem!! Ours is exactly as lots of you describe-a collection of 'fluid' in the well under the cassette, but not every time, it's as if sometimes the seal is ok and then not but we don't know what is different but obviosly something is. Sometimes when it's pushed back into the locker my husband says it didn't feel right-a bit more difficult to push back in, which is why we thought the edge/lip of the seal had maybe rolled over so that the seal wasn't quite watertight?

And yes it is the c250 we have the problem with!

Many thanks all
