Swift sevice is great

Hi, as a newby to caravaning i have a old but very nice 1985 swift danette,i have been looking round for a handbook, last night i sent a email to swift asking if i could purchase one, this morning i recieved a reply from swift saying they would send me one free of charge and if i need any further help to ask, steve

Stephen, its good to know that some manufacturers are happy to oblige with otherwise hard to get items, and for no cost is a major bonus.

Hope you enjoy many happy trips away in your van

Stephen we had a simliar Swift of that sort of vintage and it was a fine van and did many many trips. Ours was one of the last on a chassis that was not Galvanised.

If you have a Galvanised Chassis no worries.

If not, remove the A frame coverings and check out for missing paint and rust rather than get a nasty surprise as we had.

Happy vanning and enjoy the Swift.

ps. Swift were unable to help us with our A frame problem at the time but told us who could, and they were very helpful then, about 8 years ago.

hi pc,well it is the galvanised chasis, all panels are perfect windowes etc no problem, all electrics work 12v and mains,we had our first trip a cple of weeks ago it was great we are going away again next month, the only issue is: it previously had a bit of damp in the rear top corner it does not rain in it has been repaid with some kind of sealent on the roof corner,it has had new panels fitted on the inside and wallpaperd, however on that side the grab handle on the outside moves with the exterior panel the otherside is solid,i am going to buy the caravan manual from halfords, then after our next trip i intend to strip the inside in that area as it may need the timber renewing,so any advice would be nice, steve

Good. Hate to worry people, our old van was a changeover period from plain painted steel to galavanised I was told. The A frame cowling held water and the top of the frame was just rust, out of sight of servicing eyes!

Boat builder Uncle has repaired three caravans. Stainless or Brass boat screws go in place of removed screws and he only aver uses 221 Sikaflex that they use in the Haynes Caravan Manual. He only uses Sika product on boats as well and has never experienced further water ingress when using that product range. If you have to replace timber make sure you use water proof adhesives and water proof the timber with a good varnish, panels will then adhere better when using Sikaflex I'm told.
