Swify door lock keys can damage side of caravan

A note of caution.

Swift caravans are supplied with two door lock keys. The first is flipper style and it is safe to leave the key in the lock and clip the door open because there is sufficient clearance between the door and the side of the caravan.

The second key is not flipper style and there is insufficient space between the door and the side of the caravan. If you leave the key in the lock and clip the door open you will dent the side of the caravan.

Well yeh! So what are you saying? Surely you aren't considering a warranty claim are you? I think the normal logical practice is to unlock the door and take the keys out again. A small stick on hook inside the caravan to store them until you go out maybe? Or hacksaw a bit off of the offenders non operating end.

Err...

I think that Paul was simply trying to warn fellow forum members about a problem that he has encountered David.

That's what we do.

Parksy & Paul,

I am sorry for my comments. I will attempt to hold my tongue in future.

No worries David, I have days like that sometimes and I'm sure that you didn't mean to appear sharp ;o)

Indeed you can :(

As Mrs D found out last year. We now have a nice little dent in the much advertised upgraded thicker skinned one piece side of our Ace Supreme !

Not the end of the world, but a shame that Swift didn't think about it.

Still, if all the resources of the mighty Toyota and its component supplier/s can get it so wrong, then by comparison the chaps at Swift do an amazing job with an annual research and development budget that I guess is probably less than Toyota spend in a fraction of a second.

If you are reading Ash, it's worth considering spacing out the door latch by an extra few mm, or supplying both keys as the flipper design to avoid the problem.

put a color coded bump stop ie white on the side not to ugley and saves any more bangs you con by the car ones like they put on the doors around the key holes to stop scratches.

I also have a tiny dent but not caused by me. As my van was on a forecourt for a while, and I achieved a very good deal in the purchase, one of the downsides was that the van had been opened a number of times to allow viewing. The dealer personnel had occasionally forgotten to remove the keys before allowing the door to swing back, especially in a wind, and hey presto, a small dent. Ah well, it is not that noticeable and over time I am sure a few more dents and nicks will appear in various places.
