Switch from Calor to Gaslow Autogass?

We tour europe, usually 4 week trips, and carry a couple of propane cal or bottles. One is 13kg and the other is 5 or 6kg I think. I have been thinking of switching to Gaslow refillable cylinders because of nagging doubts that we are running out of gas, so far we have managed with no problems.
Anybody done this and have any advice?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother. You can buy a pigtail (It's a standard butane pigtail) here in the UK which will fit French Butagaz and other propane cylinders. You have the peace of mind knowing that you can still cook and heat.

The following taken from another forum
One advantage you will have is that it will prepare you for potential use of almost any EU bottle.
The 21.8 LH hose (which will connect directly to a UK Butane or a French 13kg Propane), can also be fitted at the bottle end with one of a range of adapters that will enable the use of other bottles. The Gaslow website is a good source of info.

If you are running short simply buy a French propane cylinder. I believe the pigtail I bought a couple of years ago was about £15

Agree with the above answer. We tour for up to 12 weeks at any one time. We carry two 6kg bottles , and have never run out of gas. Usually only use a half bottle in one trip. That is of course in the summer, so don't need heating. We also go to sites, and have an electric plate on our cooker. (English made van) Electric kettle and toaster. Our locker does not have the room for the larger bottles.

I am hoping that 1X13kgs and 1X6kgs exchange cylinders will be enough as I think it would be hard to justify the £500 to have a Gaslow system installed. Having said that, on our first trip abroad with our motorhome with only 2 X6kgs cylinders I was nearly caught out. We used the camper stop at Fussen in Southern Germany. Despite being the middle of May it was very cold and electricity was a very expensive extra so we supplemented it with gas to keep the costs down. I was surprised how much gas we used in those two days which was the reason for swapping one of the 6kgs cylinders for a 13kgs one. Fortunately for the rest of the trip it warmed up and we always had an included electricity supply. If you think you will be in a position where you will use a lot of gas the Gaslow system might well be worth considering. Renting extra cylinders whilst you are away is fine, and cheaper, but you do need space to store any empty UK cylinders.

A couple of years back while in France we went to a supermarket fuel station and got a Le Cube bottle and the pigtail from a caravan spares depot for it as all the trips in Europe we do start and finish in France so replacing the Le Cube gas which is cheaper than calor by the way, same gas just not so dear is so simple as most supermarkets sell Le Cube replacement bottles. We carry one 6k calor lite for two trips a year (May/June & Aug/October ) and for the winter December till mid January we take two calor lite plus the French bottle. Works for us. It takes no time at all to just unscrew and replace the pigtail with the appropriate one. Much cheaper than Gaslow that is unless you use loads of gas and as we only have 20 weeks a year in Europe its better for us.
