We have just got a Talbot Express Rambler 1990, Petrol.
When its been left over night it takes about 6 turns of the engine before it will start, its sounds as there is no petrol in the carb.and I have to keep turning the engine. Once it starts it is then ok for the rest of the day starting first time.
Any help please.

This is a common problem with Petrol Talbots, The petrol drains back to the Mechanical Fuel pump and beyond, and has to be pumped up to the carb. before it will start, 5 or 6 cranks over is normal. Mine was still doing it when I sold it. They start fine when they are only switched off for an hour or so.
Here is a Good Webpage/Forum for Old Talbot Expresses. :

I used to use it all the time, when I had my 1988 Talbot express Autosleeper Talisman. Good Luck. Ray

Glen,
You might find a 'One way check valve' inserted into the fuel line between carb. and fuel pump might solve the problem, I didn't get around to doing it, but was thinking about it before I sold my Talbot.
