Ive noticed these for a while now, i find them under the bed crawling along the floor i regularly hoover under beds to remove crumbs etc when we have used the caravan. They are extremly small black midgy type things and im sure not bed bugs as we would be infested by now im sure, as i said ive noticed them for a long time now its 'bugging me' lol i want to know what they could be. Damp problem has been sorted now so the caravan is dryand i know that things can get in as there are vents.................anyway can anyone shed some light on the little critters.................

Don't know what they are but I'm reasonably sure you will be wanting rid of them.
You are doing the right thing by regularly vacuming under bunks etc. No food supply hopefully cuts down on pests like these. One other thing I do a couple of times a year is give the hard floor surfaces a spray with a bug killer that lasts on the surfaces for some weeks and allegedly kills anything that walks or crawls over the floor. I know Raid make one, you can get them from the likes of B & Q.
It is difficult to stop insects getting in the caravan but at least the spray will stop them setting up permanent home.

If you are not sure what they are then ask a local pest control company for a couple of sticky boards which will trap the insects. If you then take the board to them they will identify the insects and advise the best control method rather than spraying all sorts of chemicals about the you have no idea as to their effectiveness.

Hi lauramumof3,
I'm not sure if we are talking about the same bugs but living in the country we are bugged every year in late July and August with little black bugs. These are about 3mm long and get everwhere. They are known to me as thunderbugs. They breed in grass and fly to mate around this time. They are so small that they can get into flat screen TV's between the outer and second layer of the screen, behind photgraph glass, infact almost anywhere. If you have these they are no problem just an annoyance. Simply vac them up. They should dissapear in a short while once their breeding season is over.

Just as a matter of interest Lauramumof3, which B&Q does your other half work in?
I'm asking because I'm at their Durham store.

I think i have made an identification they look like booklice or psoids (spelling) which live in damp conditions, that would probably explain why ive seen them before as our caravan has had a big leak and has been repaired this year, plus the fact of all the rain i will investigate further........................
thankfully definatly not bed bugs i got a little worried lol but they look nothing like bed bugs!!
nevertheless they are a nuisance and i wll get something to get rid of them
