What T.V. you get depends on your taste in appearance, how much you want to spend etc. Just, when you are choosing, check the brightness and picture quality when viewed away from the centre line of the screen both horizontally and vertically. Some flat screen T.V.s image falls off badly if not viewed from almost straight ahead.

My view has always been to buy the cheapest one you can get. If the truth was known most of the cheaper TV's electronics are from the same few sources and invariably you will get the latest technology. In my day it used to be called "Badge Engineering".

i.e. Design the badge and case and "buy in" the works.

What Mike E has said was true on earlier flat screen TV's (I have one) but these things have improved with time and I doubt whether the latest models suffer from this now.

On Mike's point our caravan TV does suffer from this but because of the confined space within the caravan it's not really noticeable.

Hi Keith, I think the answer mostly is personal choice.

Large plasmas were cheaper and lcd's couldn't handle fast movements too well also the backs in plasmas were better.

However, the industry has moved on and I think there is very little difference these days and in a caravan environment I think Coronation Street would look good on either!! and no matter how good the TV was I'm sure it wouldn't improve the adverts.

Here is a link that might answer some questions.

If you don't mind mains only and you can still find one, get a Sharp Aquos L19D1EBK. It has one of the best LCD panels of that size on the market and - especially - the picture does not go dark when you view from below the centre line (i.e. when you are lying down!)

My advice is dont buy one without seeing it working first so you can check the picture. I bought a cheap one from Argos the other week & it was impossible for me and the wife to watch it at the same time because if you were looking at it from an angle the picture went very very dark. We took it back.
