Thank you for letting me in and joining a great site.
I am a single woman who will be giving up her council house after 19 yrs to live in a caravan on site somewhere in cornwall. Near to work as possible! I have been priced out of the market and my home and want a fresh start. I want my own home that I alone paid for, even though it will be a caravan with awning, it will indeed be mine :)
My rent has just gone up by £50 a month and I can't and will not keep up with this greed any longer. Soon people without children living in council and such like property will be asked to leave any how, so I am making plans now. I am a hard working woman and I love to camp, walk and love nature so its A WIN WIN FOR ME. I am going to have around £2/3000 to spend on a caravan only so will need the best I can get for my money. Just one question? How much would I be looking at for staying all year round on site as I have had a couple of prices, which where completely different so I have no clue as what to pay. I will need an electric/sawage/water hook up etc. any idea's and tips would be most helpful. Many thanks campers
Lyn

Hi Lyn
Welcome to the Forum. There are several posters who are are or were 'full timers' on this Forum, so they may be able to help with specifics. I doubt howerer that you will get sewerage hookup with a touring van on a seasonal pitch. I believe that only comes with static vans.

I just meant somewhere to put the waste etc, by reading I am learning how this all works :) I just wish the council would not make it so difficult for people to live in a van in a field. What sort of price is to be expected to pay for a full time pitch? any ideas?

Hi Lyn, welcome to the forum
smiley-laughing.gif

You are making a brave decision in giving up a council house for life in a touring caravan, the lifestyle can be very cold and damp in winter and you are unlikely to find a site which will allow you to stay all year round.
Having said that, if you can't find affordable alternative acommodation such as a flat, bedsit or even a shared house or a like minded lodger to share expenses you will need to do some serious homework before taking the plunge.
On a budget of £2/3000 you are unlikely to find a late model caravan that is free from damp or other faults so you will need to spend your money wisely.
Click Here to have a good browse through the used caravan buyers guide by caravan expert Andrew Jenknson and use the rectangular link buttons on the left of the guide to navigate the buying process.
Knowing what to look out for will help you to avoid costly mistakes, so take your time and if you have any questions no matter how silly they may seem don't be scared to ask, just add a query on the General message board.
There is a long running forum topic of some 470 posts all about full timing in a tourer by those who have and still are doing just that, Click Here to navigate to it from here
There are often jobs as site wardens for those prepared to live in a tourer if you are not permanently employed already so it may be worth while keeping your eye on the Caravan Job Finder
Good Luck, don't do anything hasty and keep in touch

Unfortunately Lyn the text of your post has failed to load to the message board. It's highly likely that the reason for this will be your choice of web browser. Contrary to popular belief most versions of Internet Explorer use older incomplete codes which do not automatically update and which do not comply with present day internet technology. Microsoft recognise the problem and have come up with a way to resolve this issue, Click Here for instructions on how to activate the Internet Explorer compatibility mode. Alternatively you might like to choose a more up to date web browser such as Mozilla Firefox

Hi John
I need to be around Penryn/Truro area for work which is on a bus/train route as I don't drive! I know all sounds crazy, leaving her house to live in a caravan and she don't even drive :) That's me! I shall overcome any problem. You would not believe how much money I am throwing into this council house right now. It's beyond a joke. It is cheaper renting private. So after a year if I have had enough of caravan living, I shall simply rent again.

Hi there
I know where there is a little place that will let you stay permanant but trying to explain where it is may be a problem, Do you know where the little garden nursery is just outside of Penryn on the Truro road? its in a layby, A bit further down the road there is a turning for Flushing and Mylor, if you take that road and then take the first right and its about 100 yds or so on your right.
I knew someone who lived there for years in a caravan, and you are on thew main road to Truro with a bus stop the other side of the main road.
If you have any problems finding it you can email me at (Moderator Edit: I will forward your email address to Lyn because it is unwise to publish personal email addresses on the forum)
Finding a good dry van may be a problem but if you look hard enough you can pick up a bargain, Do you know anyone that can tow it for you??
John
