The Most Inexpensive Caravan Pitch

A little time ago in the mid seventies I pitched my outfit ( then a 1100 cc Ford Escort and my trusty but small Thompson Mini Glen ) on a site in the open sea loch Nan Ceall at Arisaig , Scotland . This being about 30 miles up the then mainly single track road from Fort William towards Mallaig . I only ever knew it as Pete's site as recommended by my parents who were avid caravanners , all you had was a single toilet block with 3 stalls and cold water sinks , and separate water taps around the levelish grass site . 50 Pence a night was the charge to to paid as and when , as most Campers stayed longer than anticipated . On the site you could pitch up anywhere and have free awning , tent or second car . My OH and I pitched up on the grass straight in front of the white sand beach facing south with the beach being 20 feet wide before beautiful blue sea . What a absolutely lovely peaceful but basic real campers type site and Pete being a Gentleman and farmer . I've never ventured to that particular area again and have no idea if a site is still in that locality , if someone knows if it is I'd love to hear about it . Even in the seventies 50 p was not at all expensive maybe the price of about a quarter of a gallon , yes gallon , of petrol :) Steve

Thank you for looking aldo , I'm not sure but there certainly was not all the sites that you can see there now . I never thought of going on google maps and its so lovely to see those wonderful white sand beaches again . My local east coast beaches can look really nice but never that colour of sand . I know in Seahouses up to Holy Island the beaches are light coloured in the hot sun but never white , but its free to park and enjoy especially just above Bamburgh Castle , Oops sorry my mind floated off . Cheers mate . Steve .

Didn't realise there was a youtube clip aldo , I can see you know you computer stuff ,lol . If its not the site I mentioned as being 50P then its the double of it . What a lovely video from someone who loves the peace and panoramic scenery as much as myself , absolutely beautiful with good write up comments . Never remember Pete being a guitarist but then again I never asked . After seeing the clip its got me yearning to go back this year , Thank you John . Steve .

With a brand new van the first thing I would do is take it to a weight bridge & get a proper true weight figure to work with, and then weigh everthing as it's put in, it is so very easy to overload it ...
