The Somme

My wife and I are taking our 2-berth to the Somme area of France for the first two weeks in October and would like to stay in the area around Albert as a central point to our respect and remembrance visit to the area. Any suggestions for a site would be appreciated.

I haven't got anything for Albert but there is a nice campsite at Peronne which is just a few miles away. Have a look at their website: http://www.camping-plaisance.com/english/camping.htm

By October, most of the sites in that area will be closed - they generally close around the 15th September. Try St Valery, Hesdin or Peronne.

We spent 3 days at the Castel's site in St Valery in August. There were lots of statics and Eurocamp etc Tents.

We had problems getting off the pitch and onto the access road because there was a steep incline and sharp turn.

Whilst there - do visit the Canadian War Memorial and take a tour of the tunnels - it was excellent.
