Ive just bought a new van, havent bothered washing it,cos its rained every day

Ive booked a week in Scotland,5 day forecast rain every day.

I read through practical caravan, all the sites have blue skies not a cloud anywhere.Wheres that?

They ought to be testing wellies and waterproofs cos thats all I need right now,not bbqs.

Next year Im going to book anywhere south of Paris, cos I dont fancy playing tiddlywinks all week thinking "i wonder when its going to stop"

In fact Im thinking of selling the whole blinking lot and going back to Turkey etc for the hols Its 100 degrees in Bodrum.

OH DEAR

cant say i blame you, im sure keswick was on the tele on the 1pm news, due to flooding....when we went to keswick in april and june it was the heat wave, thankfully..i like to have the van down the drive just in case i want to go at the last minute somewhere, we also never take any notice of the weather forcasts, that way we dont get dissapointed, we go to scotland in 5 weeks cant wait no matter what the weather...south of france sounds nice though...take care regards ED

Just over a year ago the wife and I finally decided to get hitch, to acaravan that is.

We thought it would be a great alternative to holidays cottages and foreign trips. To date we have spent 42 nights away, about 8 or 9 rain free. Help me here. I'm now finding it difficult to justify the running cost insurance storage, etc on top of HP and petrol. We are due to spend 3 weeks in Cornwall next week but it looks like its going to be a wash out like last year when we ended up coming home early. 1 day in 9 was rain free. Now i'm happy kicking back and letting the world go by, but not so the offsprings and dogs. What to do.

Looking into possibility of selling the van and waiting a few more years for global warming to really kick in.

Come on lets think back to the real reasons why we all bought our caravans in the first place! Surely not for the British weather. Think of the freedom it gives us, the quality family time, the countless number of breaks possible each year, the adventures for the kids, getting back to nature, meeting like minded folk (well most of the time anyway), holidaying at our leisure and not set to times for breakfast etc. Come on lets turn this thread around and think about all the reasons why we love caravanning.

By the way we have 2 weeks booked in Dorset starting from next week - apparently August is now a wash out! Not to worry, we will still go, and look forward to going away at Christmas were there will probably be a heatwave!!

Just spent 3 weeks in England and only rained during 2 days not even for whole day. Was lovely.34 degrees day I went to Alton Towers felt like florida. You should move to Northern Ireland where the school holidays start at end of june and last 9 weeks then you get whole of July to enjoy crowd free.

I know exactly how you feel. When we first bought a van, almost every weekend had some decent hot weather from April through to October, in fact I don't remember ever being stuck in it wondering if the rain was going to ease off enough for me to hear the radio....not like now! And as we have only had a van for 7 years, it has changed dramatically. Many weekends this year we have ummed and aahed about whether it will be ok to go out with it so we can walk the dogs, and in the end we have stayed home...wise choice as it has mostly chucked it down. I have now got to the point where I just do not think it is economic to keep the van, and would gladly be rid of it because of the unreliable weather. Why waste money on fuel, camp site fees, etc. simply to do what you can do at home.

hello

one of my favorite things to do is to be sat in our caravan , and its chucking it down i love the noise, and if you were to ask my 2 adult children what is a favorite memory or thought, the rain on the roof of the caravan is always very near the top. i even go sit in the conservatory when it rains, maybe its an age thing (well no ive always liked it) so ignore the rain get your wellies out. get your brollies, and enjoy. we got our first van 20 years ago, because we wanted to explore different places and go when and where we wanted and not to be stuck to time tables with hotels, we purchased our newest van last aug, it was new, and we think was our 10th van in 20 years, (i get bored, and children and dog situations changed, then grandchildren came along) enjoy it its ace, im 45, and i worked out that 30 of the 45 years i have had a van. we had one when i was younger, and both our kids would have them if they could afford one at the moment. i think this year alot of people will find out if they love it or hate it, or were talked into something they didnt fully understand. i think ive gone on enough now, bet you can tell i love cararvanning. and our 2 gorgeous old english sheepdogs also love it too. (thats even more fun in the rain). cant wait to go in 5 weeks to scotland, and thats only coz we dont go in school hols, but love winter caravanning also. take care enjoy enjoy

Here's another dilema.

Due to go away next weekend and don't want a repeat of last years wash out so would rather stay at home and do a few jobs, yes i know shear excitement. But should I cancel my booking now or leave it til say next Friday potentially blocking some one from booking a holiday in the cornish moisture.

We've spent 41 nights away this year.

During our two week stay in Northumberland in June it rained 2 out of the 14 days. All our other breaks have been 3 to 6 days closer to home in Northern Ireland and while it hasn't rained constantly, it has rained at some point on every break.

Thankfully we go prepared and have our boots, waterproof jackets, waterproof trousers and towels and hairdryer for the dogs.

Just spent three days on a nice site in Lytham watching the Ladies British Open. Certainly plenty of blue sky for the three days that we were away. It certainly made for a nice break. Nice to see the sun again!!
