Thetford C2 not flushing

I suspect that the pump has gone on my Thetford C2 bench cassette toilet in my Swift Challenger 490SEL but would appreciate some advice from anyone in the know !

The fuse is OK (it was blown) and when I depress the flush button I get no flush - the lights dim very slightly in the van so I know the connection is there. I did a search on here and read some other posts regarding changing the pump which does not seem too onerous but just wanted to clarify that this is probably the problem.

Any advice or other things to try would be appreciated.

Jonathan, from your description of the lights dimming when you try the flush, and the fuse had blown is almost certainly indicative of a pump failure.

To change it remove the toilet roll, then remove the holder it sits in by pulling upwards on the raised lip.

The pump is located directly below the holder and is held in place by one screw.

Remove the screw and lift the pump upwards, remove the flush tube from the pump.

Making SURE all electric is OFF!! cut the pump wire as close to the pump as possible, discard pump and pump holder.

Put new pump in its new holder which should be with the pump making sure the wire comes up through the centre aperture.

Carefully strip back about 25mm inches of the cable remaining from the old pump and bare about 10mm of each of the two cables.

Slide the heat shrink over the cable and out of the way whilst you crimp the bared wires to the respective terminals on the pump wire.

Slide the heat shrink over the join in the cables, making sure you have equal amounts over the outer sheathing of each wire and shrink in place with a heat gun, carefully to avoid melting the outer sheathing of the cables, but warm enough to shrink the tube to make a watertight join.

Lower the pump into its working position, reconnect the flush tube and route the cable out of the way to allow the toilet roll holder to be replaced.

Replace the holder, and the toilet roll.

Switch on the electric and you should have a flushing toilet again.

Hi

I have a similar problem with the Thetford C200- fuse blown and not working once replaced. Do you know how to get to the pump in this model, please?

Best wishes

Hi

It is the C200 CWE. Since I posted, I have managed to fix the problem. My experience may be worth sharing. Access to the pump is via the cover on the top of the toilet that houses the switch. This needs to be carefully prised of. The Thetford site has good information on this:-http://www.thetford.nl/web/show/id=91559/langid=42

Remove the four screws in the plastic fitting that seats the switch cover and access to the pump is easy.

The pump sits to the left in a plastic clip and can easily be removed but note the routing of the plastic pipes before doing so- one end sits on the feed to the toilet.

I read on another forum that these often just sieze up over the winter and can be freed by turning the motor through the small hole in the bottom. This I did, and it started to whirr away and works perfectly!

When refitting, make sure that the switch housing is properly sealed- the seal on mine was reusable- and make sure you put the top 2 screws back first. That way you will have less to undo if you drop one in the tank (as I did!)

Best wishes

Keith

Our pump went on our Bridgemere, same symptoms, lights dimmed but no flush, took the top off the toilet, lifted out the pump, little screwdriver and turned the little wheel at the bottom, press the button and hey presto, turns out if you don't flush out all the toilet cleaning fluid it sets and clogs the motor, filled the toilet with soapy water and give it a good rinse, job done problem solved saved me a fortune.

I have the same non flush problem, but no lights dimming that I can see. The 3 amp fuse was blown, replaced, still no flush.

One wire from the supply seems to go to a small plug....the other wire goes to one side of micro-switch....then a wire comes from the other side of the micro-switch back to the small plug.

I assume the small plug is the connection to the pump wire.

I put a circuit tester across this "small plug" and operated the flush...it lights.....so the power is getting there OK....but with the small plug connected, I still get a circuit across the micro-switch, when operated. Is it possible to get a operating circuit even when the pump is knackered ?

Would I be right is thinking that dimming lights suggests a jammed pump and no dimming is an expired pump ?

David, yes you are correct, if the fuse blows and no dimming of lights, the pump has failed fully and needs replacing.

Cheers Keith, You have just saved me a fortune. With my pump the main wires leading to the switch were corroded so a quick snip & some black tape and the flush works great. I think the view that no dimming lights means a knackered pump may not be the case every time

cheers

Me too, thanks a lot.Just be careful unclipping the hose as the snap in brackets break easily,as did mt top one ,but the bottom one should be sufficient to hold it in place.
