Has anyone experienced rusting shelves inside the Thetford Fridge on the edges ?

I am surprised your shelves last long enough to rust - a friend and I both have had troubles with the shelves falling out every time we tow - the only help we have from Thetford is a new clip. Friend has glues his in, if mine keep falling out and we don't get any Thetford help, I'll have to get some glue.

Well yeah suprised they do stay in actually.But unable to get many answers from Thetford.

We have had the same problem with the shelves in our Theford Fridge. We have only had the caravan for 1 year and have had no end of trouble with the fridge. The shelves falling out. The thermostat failed and cans of coke exploded in the fridge damaging the fins at the back of the fridge they supplied a new part and then the control panel failed and we had to have a new pc board which was replace under guarantee but we had to pay the call out charge as by this time we were sick of towing the van back and forth to the suppliers. I think they should have stuck to making toilets !!!

My shelves are also rusting, but not to bad, Where do you get new shelves?, as Thetford say, they are not retailers,One thing i did with my last van was to take the shelves out altogether when not in use, and dry and store them

If you put 'caravan fridge shelf' into Google there are several companies offering shelves and other spare parts. We managed to get an oven shelf a few months ago, but can't remember the company. It arrived by post within a few days.

Thanks, woodland camper. I sourced them, but also went to my local dealer, and he can obtain them, they are now on order. thanks again.

While we're on the subject of Thetford Fridges, mine won't run on gas either. It starts, but goes out after a - slow - release of the starter knob. I assume this is a flame sensing failure; is this an easy fix or best left to the professionals?

Hi, our shelves have rusted, however, they do stay in place. The problem we had was we couldn't get the b****y thing to light on gas. On one occasion it took 12 hours, going back to it time after time after time. Told the dealer and all of a sudden it works.

My biggest worry is that when the gas runs out overnight the ignition is firing away all night trying to ignite gas and then one has a flat/low battery. We have asked repeatedly for a switch to turn off the electric (12v) supply to the fridge, but it cannot be done. Elelctrolux, or whatever their name is now, can do it why not Thetford.

As stated above, they should stick to toilets.

I liked their adverts in the two club magazines.

have you got the "NEW ALL MIGHTY WET LOCKER" from thetford on you caravan? when i opened ours, water rushed out. i thought the idea of a wet locker was so that you can wash it out and put wet things in, not it lets water in and stores it. and the catches no longer work proberly. i have to 'break my thumbs' so to speak just to open them. yes the adverts are funny, but they are about toilets, thetford don't seem to premote fridges and wet lockers - i wonder why?

hi Norman.

the problem is the thermocouple (if that is how you spell it!) moves out of the flame on bumpy roads so it won't light. best left to the professionals is questionable, as ours has been 'fixed' three times by two main dealers and it only now just works. i think that it is a bad design as it is too sensative to movement.

Thanks George. It looks as if I will have to hope for a competent fixer.
