Hi

has anyone had any experience of fitting a theford bench electric flush toilet to an old caravan (our little gem is a 1989 ABI Daystar). We are new to caravanning & have bought a secondhand thetford toilet (with outer door & key) but my hubby would like some advice regarding fitting.

Several questions to be answered,

Do you feel confident cutting the exterior hatch?

Is there a 12volt power feed available?
Hi Del

spoken with hubby, he's ok about cutting the exterior hatch (he's a chippy by trade so shouldn't pose any major problems). There is an electric feed available. The thetford we bought had quite a long length of wire still attached, so i'm guessing this won't be a major issue.

The one thing he's puzzling over is the water feed into the toilet. we've both had a look & can't actually see anywhere that the water should connect to.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Paul

Have set hubby this by no means small, task to do & feeling a little guilty now!

We can't fathom wheere the water feed into the toilet is. we've had the cassette out & worked out where the pump is, etc.. but can't fathom what should really be the most basic bit!

If you could point us in the right direction, that would be a start. 2nd difficulty appears to be that our van's layout means that the toilet will fit along the back wall, but access point will be from the side (which is fine), believe the problem may lie in the fact that the shower plughole, will actually be under the toilet once we've fitted it.

Hi the water goes in the externel side door there will be a grey pipe normally with a yellow cap that swivels out so you can fill it up, unless you have an electric pump fed system?? please advise?

Hi Paul

i'm pretty sure it's not a pump fed system. It looks quite old (tho i appr. thats not necessarily an indication). It has the push & turn button flush on the right (as you sit on it). The waste holder which slides out. Only other thing is a small plastic reservoir that has a black cap on (i'm assuming you fill the cleaning fluid here) & @ the bottom of this reservoir there's an outlet that has a small black plastic cap on.

I'll check when I get home, if there's a model number anywhere on it.

Hi Derryck, the fresh water fill looks like a small resovoir at the top of the sideof the unit but it swivels outwards to enable it to fill up, if i remember rightly it has a small cap on the bottom of it and the big cap on the top for filling, also there should be a small pipe connected that goes to a glass water indicator tube, i am describing a left hand model if it is a right then it will be on the opposite side etc..

Excellent, the mist is clearing now. Pretty sure there's no pipe conected to the small reservoir, but i'll get my hubby to re-check (don;t think he'll be best pleased having to unpack it yet again).

Greatly appreciate all your help. Appr. if you could check forum towards the w/e, as i daren't ask him again today!
