Hi all, I know this has been mentioned before but I think it needs mentioning again.

My caravan (make is immaterial) went for it's first service the other day and the dealer picked up that the toilet (Thetford being the manufacturer) pump had been damaged. The base of the pump was all but hanging off - cause almost certainly water in the pipework freezing. The dealer, Broad Lane, was replacing it as I arrived to collect the van and they said it was the 3rd they had seen that week (and it was only Tuesday!). Fair play to him, they didn't make a charge for replacing it but explained that Thetford would not accept it for warranty as they would claim it was frost damage. Never mind they've put a perfect u-bend in the plumbing which means it's impossible to drain it down fully despite following the winterization drain down instructions.

What happens next year though, now that I've made aware of the problem? Thetford certainly aren't interested!

Isn't it time another manufacturer got their foot in the door and make Thetford work for their share of the market? Perhaps then we'd see a change in their customer service.

It would be interesting to know just how many Thetford toilets suffered this type of damage

HI! Tony H i don,t see that the ubend would cause any problem with frost damage it would only cause a burst with the water freezing if the hole system was full of water so that when it froze there was nowhere for the water to expand . if the ubend was only full of water that would not be a problem as it would be able to expand in each direction iether up/down or left/right depending on what way it was sitting .but you have got it replaced so not so bad . next year when draining down see if it is possible some way to try blowing through the system somehow to get the water out of the ubend if you are still worried about it .

cheers Duggie
