Hi Julie

Most caravan accessory and camping shops sell a range of toilet chemicals and Halfords sell them as well now I believe

Have a look on the page for Towsure

At the moment we are using Aqua Kem green toilet fluid, the cap on our flush tank has a measuring mark on the inside.

Remove the empty flush tank, unscrew the cap and turn the spout for access.

Some toilet chemicals are diluted, others are not but the instructions for dosage etc will be on the chemical packaging or the bottle.

Hi Julie.

We have a thetford toilet in our van , a swivel as well all that means is you can spin it round if you like to make it more comfy when using . As for chemicals well on the discharge spout on the cassette there is a built in measuring scale, i add about 60ml of kem blue straight into the holding tank . As our toilet has a electric flush it has its own tank of clean water which i add around 20ml of pink rince , so when you flush loo its nice and pink . All the chemicals do is to keep any nasty smells away and i must say they do work . The chemicals can be bought from your local Caravan shop or online.

Hope this has been of help .

A couple of hints:

Elsan organic fluid can be used in top and bottom tanks. Follow the directions on the bottle. Saves space and also does not have chemical toilet smell. Costs 8.99 a bottle, lasts us about 20 days emptying every day.

Thetford do a silicone lubricating spray. Use this on the seals and moving bits. Spray some in the join between the loo and cassette so it rotates easily. Well worth the money.

Hi Julie

Good tip there from Waffler - I found the Thetford Seal Lubricant to be very helpful - it's also superb for spraying in your awning channel - makes awning erection a doddle!

Also, it sounds like a con, but the Thetford Kitchen and Toilet Cleaner is very good. It is specially formulated for the plastic used in the toilet bowl and cleans it very effectively. Well worth the money.

You can buy tiny one-shot versions of the pink and blue chemicals which are invaluable for keeping as an emergency spare. You should have a little recess under the holding tank where they live.

Try out green and blue chemicals because they have different odours! Some are better at masking smells than others! We prefer the green (more environmentally friendly) one - but there's not much in it.

A pair of rubber gloves is a sensible investment for emptying your tank too....some of the chemical disposals are...shall we say....lacking. Get the old man to do that job!
