Just to let honest people know their at it again, friends of ours were staying at a
well known commercial park on the Solway Firth, they were there for 7days and the
only caravan in their area, an older van pulled in a couple of days later and pitched up
next to our friends, after 3 nights our friends took their dog for a walk and when they
returned their water barrel and pump were gone. The day before this happened the
character in the older van "accidentally " kicked his dogs ball over to their van to Suss
Out what pump they had, so be on your guard.

Thanks, Dougie.
Unfortunately, we all have to be aware when away in our caravans, especially so on commercial sites. Someone once even had their EHU cable swapped for an old one, while they were out for the day and it's not unknown for aquarolls and bikes and other stuff to have been stolen, let alone whole caravans.
The people that do this are the lowest life form there is. Shame on them.

We were unfortunate to be pitched near some once where they would get there kids to play football near the Vans, The ball kept on hitting the van so i went out and asked if they could play in a field there that no one was in, i got an earfall from the kids, then as if that was not enough i had a torrent of abusive language from the parrents, Now i am not putting money on it but can imagine that these are the sort that would send the kids over to pinch your aquaroll or waste hog.
We are not snobs, we are on holiday and want some peace and quiet when on holiday and expect to be able to leave our van and awning with bellongings in or around without some lightfingered Knob pinching them.
Luckily 9 times out of 10 we have people either side who like to chill out.

I agree unfortunately this is not new and has been going on ever since we started in the early 70's over the years we have "lost" a few items while on site allthough nothing major, mostly the odd pump and container, although these occurances are relatively rare it does go on and one has to be vigilant in ones approach, the choice of site and size can be a contributing factor, many of the occurances we have witnessed, from missing EHU's to a satelite dish, took place on sites that had pubilic access, at some point like the ones ajacent to playing fields and canal and river banks, so it may not allways be light fingered campers to blame.
having said that one does get a feeling when arriving at certain sites, and on these it pays to be carefull. and not stay there too long,
small enclosed sites and CL's are far better scurity wise, but there is no point in being paraniod about security just careful!!.

I've had some weird things nicked
The gas heater chimney cowell.
The plastic lock cover on the exterior Thetford toilet hatch..
If I had caught them they might have spent a night at the local fracture clinic.

It amazes me just how low people stoop to nick from other folks.
Mind you, I had probably the cheapest thief caught in the act !!!!
I had 2 plastic chromed tyre valve caps nicked off my car while it was parked in my disabled space in the disabled person's estate where I live. So I forked out £2-50 on a new set for the car, only to have 2 caps go missing again !!!
So now I was realy miffed (putting it politely). So it was pay back time. I swapped the last of the "new" valve caps from the left side to the drivers side of the car. I then added a spot of contact glue that I have the desolver to, to each cap and went back to my garden which is out of sight of the car but within ear shot of it. So just like fishing I waited for the fishing bite alarm to go off. Sure enough afer just one cup of coffee and a dough nut, the alarm sounded, and I had not just one thief on the bait but two and they were twins. yelling like the thieving little piggy's they were they soon attracted the attention of mama and she came over. While she was annoyed at first, she soon saw my point and asked me to leave them there for half an hour until their dad got home. So Dad and mum came over and realy had a go at the two tea leaves and were full of appology to me. I applied the disolver and the valve caps were seperated from the fingers. I have also got a month from each of them for the next 2 months to valet my car for free at their home where mum and dad have their eyes upon the little bratts. It turned out that the parents were suspicious that the boys had been shop lifting as there were more goodies than pocket money value turning up at home, and it seems that my sting was just the ticket they needed to happen, before the boys in blue were involved.
Now her is the cautionary note because doing this is illegal and it could of just as easily gone the wrong way for me. So before anyone follows suit, think about what you must be able to accept and the concequences. things like muscle if that becomes an issue and legal advice for the court case if the boys in blue get involved. Plus a glue disolver that works. It also helps to know the neighbours. In my case I got away with it and did the parents a favour as they didn't know how to shock the boys before they got in to crime too deep.

It's a great shame that we have to even have to think that a fellow caravanner would steal from you but as life get's harder to live within the "Austerity" dished out to all of us (working or not), by cameron's cronies

If you really want to see what austerity feels like try going to Spain and see the small memorials to people who have committed suicide when their houses were to be re-possessed, or talk to an Irish pensioner!

Im just thinking wether i watch a different news at ten to what Steve watches? But anyway Blair and brown have never been so well off now their out of power.
Steve you must tell did you think of the consequences if it went "wrong" and did you have the resourses to back it up if the "boys in blue"turned up.I know for certain i couldnt afford a brief to defend me in court for some thing like this.I thought along time ago im in the "wrong club".I should join the club that only sees one 6 oclock per day.

The two most serious thefts I have I know about, the first was a caravan where the owner had brought it to a storage facility, where he had to unhitch it close to its storage pitch, go and park the car out side the facility then return to manhandle the caravan onto its pitch, only to find it had been pinched in the 5 mins he had been away parking the car.

The second and more serious theft involved the thief removing the burner control unit from a Carver Cascade 2 whilst in storage. The family involved had collected their caravan and loaded it at but had not reconnected the gas bottles. They set off and arrived at the NFOL. It was only when setting up their caravan they noticed a very strong smell of gas and hears the hissing noise of gas escaping. A very scary and serious discovery.

On that occasion the Carver service team were exhibiting at the festival, and were able to supply and fit a replacement, which I believe was done free of charge as a gesture of goodwill under the rather special circumstances.

My oh my.what world do you live in steve! If your story with regards the two twins is true! You most certainly have saved the world from
a possible re enactment of the cray twins!
Frankly what you claim you have done is darn right evil! two kids nicked your valve caps! Christ is that it!
,all i can say is you are indeed lucky. lucky those kids seem to have idiots for parents, that is,if there is any truth in your story...

Haha Someone read my mind. I could understand it if the twins were trying to pinch his Catelytic Converter, I threw out a set of those Chrome valve caps as they just get stuck on the valve anyway. You could have had them Steve haha

Parksys home! Just testing Parksy! It lasted longer than I thought it would.
Hi Sir Gab
We had a lovely weekend in the sunshine but I had quite a bit to catch up on when I logged in to the forum earlier.
My rather abrupt reply was because when I was searching the forum to look for instances of members having to fill in word verifications I saw a couple of comments that don't belong in this thread or on the forum. Your joking reply gave me a quick opportunity to show that I'd seen earlier political comments and removed them
