The black bits are algae - it's normal, if undesirable.

Some caravanners blame the pink fluid for the black bits, others like me have used Thetford Flush for decades without any problem.

We had used Thetford pink and blue in our first year touring and no matter what we did kept on getting black bits in the flush water. Not very nice. However, on reading on here some time ago now, we have changed to Elsan pink and blue and it is much much better. The black bits are few and far between now.

We have had our caravan for just over a year (its 10 years old)and we have never had the black bits. We do drain the flush water after every trip, and I think it could be not draining your tank that causes it (just like the black stuff that collects in yellow bath ducks).

I was told that the black bits are from the cistern plunger, that is assuming you have a swivel seat loo. It was our service manager said don't leave plunger down hard to the bottom of its travel.

Hope this helps, we haven't had any problems since.

Saying Thetford is the clue - they have taken some of the original chemicals out of both their pinkl and blue, you can now buy the 'special' fluids to get the cleaning back.

OR You can swap to Elsan, thrit pink and blue are complete.
