Finally made the decision and taken the plunge. Just ordered a 2012MY 110 Defender XS to replace the trusty but too small Rexton. Couldn't believe how cramped nearly all the other 7 seat 4x4's were in the back. Our seven year old couldn't get comfy in most!!!! Should be with us in November some time so give us a wave as you overtake us chugging along heading south.

Nice one Martin, I have always been a big fan of LR, especially the Defender. Our new LR is due in October, we can't wait!

Have you got a giant 7-year old? I get two 5'3" adults in the 3rd row of my Santa Fe without any complaints.

Quite like them myself,do think the front is extremely cramped also,to the point of having to travel with the front windows open as to have some were to put my arms.Fitted with the 2.2hdi/psa?

Yes the new 2.2, Front is a bit cramped but we don't use the car much apart from four or five long trips a year it only gets used for school run a few times a week so won't be an issue. SWMBO will probably drive it more than me and she's happy with it and she does more towing than me these days too so both happy.

Didn't look at the santa fe as a tad light for 85% and swmbo doesn't like the look of them so no point in going to try it!!

Couldn't get one to spec before November but also happy to wait for the cheaper road tax. Almost went for another disco but too many electrics to go wrong as planning to keep this tow car for the next 20 years at least. May downsize when swmbo retires and have only one car. so got to do until we're 60!! change hers more regularly as we do a higher mileage in that one!

Too light ???
My 2011 model has a kerbweight of 2017kg, according to the V5C "Mass In Service" - do you really tow at over 1700kg MTPLM?

I doubt whether I would not buy a vehicle just because my 7 year old told me he was cramped! LOL!

20 years of ownership? Hmm.Knowing todays diesel engines is that going to be possible? They seem to be getting very unpredictable.I have just gone back to a petrol as a runabout.Which for me is totally agaist the grain, but 65mpg and cheaper fuel seems nice.Good luck
