It occurs to me that there are an increasing number of issues that Forum Members would care to alert others to/of/or about, for 'Legal Reasons' it cannot be done on an Open Forum. Why therefore is there not a PM facility ?,it that would allow the discreet passing of information like as though it was done between individuals in normal conversation ?.
There are other caravan forums that have this facility, including those being linked to caravan Monthly Publications.

The answer to that question has already been posted by Haymarket, and PM's will not be available on this forum for those reasons.

A pity I can think of someone I could have sent a PM to

Why don't forum members choose an instant messaging or social network site and use that.
Members of this forum could choose something like Yahoo Messenger , Skype, Facebook or Twitter and open an account using their forum name.
Forum powers could place a 'sticky' with details of the chosen medium for those who wanted to use it.

In most forums and game/chat sites they have PMs. In fact at MSN GameZone, and later WGC, where I was a moderator we relied upon the PMs to keep in contact with fellow moderators, management and members who chatted between playing games. At no time did these cause problems to us or management , except extra typing if a few people were PMing you at the same time. We couldn't do without the PMs because we used them to warn members about their behaviour or help them in games. It was instant although it needed to be because the site was live.
If this site doesn't want to allow PMs surely, like other forums, there could be a way of emailing a person without making the persons email addy known or having to go through a mod, like little kids, asking if it's ok to pass on each others addies. This is 2010 and hopefully we are all adults.

With a medium such as Facebook you can just use a username and block anything you don't want others to see. instant messaging is included on FB and emails come to you Facebook page and an alert goes to your usual adress. You can also up load photo's and photo albums and video of course.

There are millions of people who have no interest in joining Facebook, Twitter or any social networking site. I did join Facebook for a very brief period and reading the utter rubbish written by some people was beyond belief. Facebook doesn't offer anything more than Skype or any email program.
Who on earth wants to look up some school friend from 40 years ago who has no interest in you for those past 40 years? Waste of space in my opinion plus the fact every day you read about people being scammed by others through their social networking site.

I too joined Facebook once. It lasted about 24 hours. I've never seen such ***p written. Within minutes of joining I had around 40 people asking me to be their friend
smiley-surprised.gif

Some were actually friends, some were family and some I'd never seen or heard of before. The following day I logged in and there were another batch wanting to be my friend
smiley-yell.gif
That was the last time I used it
smiley-smile.gif

They must use your email addy because some of the people on there were moderators on both MSN GameZone or WGC but what fooled me was then we never used Facebook. We used either Yahoo Messenger, PalTalk or the sites private PM facility. How ever they drag up these people is clever though.
When I read, hear or know people who have had a lot of grief and problems through Facebook I'm glad I didn't bother.
Besides, who wants to read what a 'wikkid' time their 18 year old grand daughter had the night before
smiley-embarassed.gif

In that 24 hours, and after reading some of the ***p, it's not surprising that it creates such bad feeling and bitchiness.
Another point is there are a lot of rapes, murders etc. where Facebook is involved either by people being gullible and meeting up with people they've 'met' on there.

I last posted on friends Reunited in 2002 and was baraged with e-mails from people some of whom I hadn't seen since I was 11.
As Uvongo says a total waste of time. Most of the girls had kids and were divorced. One even told me she was on her 3rd husband and well into Leaonard Cohen. I'm amazed she hadn't topped herself

There was one surprise. The class thicko, and real ugly , is now a gynacologist !!

Stay off facebook and all those Twitter things. You never know who's watching you

I know nothing about facebook other than what I have read but get the impression it was wrongly named.
It should have been "BUMBOOK" as it would seem that this is what most people who use it talk through!!

Sorry to all the twitters (is that the right term?) who use it!

For people who use the internet some of you appear to be quite dim
smiley-frown.gif

Facebook is nothing like Friends Reunited and has nothing to do with old school chums unless you want to use it for that purpose and it is nothing like Skype at all.
If you got drivel on your Facebook account you hadn't set up the security correctly or chose who you wanted to access your Facebook page/wall.
I only had one Facebook contact for a long time, my sons friend who works in the film and photography industry as we share similar film and photography interests, I got no other contact or drivel. I now have 22 contacts and I get no rubbish or stange contacts at all. And no one can access what I put on Facebook unless I allow them to. You set up who can see your Facebook and that excludes everyone else, if you had drivel on your Facebook acount it was your own fault!
If I set up an account using 'OmOnWeelz PC' and set the acount setting to exclude everyone but friends I will get no problems with rubbish or outsiders. If Lord B sets up his account in the same way we can only contact one another of we both agree to accept contact, no one else can see what you write or see photo's or video.
Likewise twitter is the same, I use it for my part time business and contacts and get no crap at all.

Twitter and Facebook are used by Practical Caravan so I guess you think that Nigel/PC are Twits and Bums, and I'm sure the Magazine bosses and journalsist will be pleased to know that you believe they talk from their arse!

Some people us Open accounts and some set the privacy settings and private mail and instant messaging. Nice to see you Royalists labeling the Queen a Bum as well
smiley-laughing.gif

If you are daft and can't work out how to use what the internet has to offer safely you shouldn't be making rude comments about the sites and their users. If families are stupid enough to let their kids run open access accounts on social networking sites that is a family care issue not a dangerous web site. So don't post crap about things you can't work out how to use safely
smiley-frown.gif

Lance Armstrong also uses 'Lance Armstrong' on Twitter to aid his cancer charity, he has 2688491 followers at present and if he helps the fight against cancer I don't think he's a Bum or a Twit.

You appear to be the one dishing out labels and making rude comments from what I've seen so far OmOnWeelz.
If you can't submit posts without trying to insult everyone else then it might be better if you didn't submit the posts at all.
Please think more carefully before posting any further inflammatory comments about what you see as the shortcomings of others.

What are the objections to pm's by the site owners?

I can't see anything wrong with that facility myself. I use other forums and all have the option by the member to reject/accept pm's.

Nobody said that he is
I see him as the best athlete of his generation and hope that the witchhunt against him fails
He was a triathlete championas a teenager and is still able to embrace such as Twitter to get his cancer message across
He was very abrasive as a youngster and put a lot of people's backs up but now is older and wiser

I remember there being a post by the Haymarket Technicians to say that we wouldn't be getting a p.m. service but I can't remember what reasons were given and I can't find the original post.
I could draw attention to this new topic on Monday to find out if there has been any change in the situation because a p.m. facility would in my opinion be a welcome addition to the forum.

Thanks Steve.

It would be interesting to know exactly why they object to it.

Even if someone DID receive an offensive pm, all they would have to do is forward it to the moderators and the person who sent it would be dealt with. As I say, all the other forums I go on have the facility to 'switch off' the ability to receive pm's.

Agree 100% with Lisa posts.

But hold on Parksy Moderator. Prior to my last post, posts from Uvongo93,Lord Braykewynde,Dustydog and Reg included comment that was
Wrong by miles
Very Very Misleading
Rude and Insulting to millions

There are over 500 million Facebook users including the Queen and around 200 million Twitter users, users include the rich, famous, and people and businesses from a wide cross section. Not sure how many members post on this forum but some of the comments did a pretty good job of insulting and being rude to about 700 million people. According to the Lord and Reg "twits / bums"
Skype is a VOIP site, Facebook is not! You can't email via Skype as it is nothing like FB. If FB is set up correctly, you can't read what your grandaughter is up to unlike Lord Braykwynde's post suggests. I have three kids with Facebook accounts and I can't access anything about them even if I wanted to, they have their accounts secured for those who they want to see them, not the general public or any dangerous nutters.
FB is nothing like Friends Reunited either, it doesn't link schools or work places,
My suggestion was that if PC doesn't want to offer IM it could be done using readily available mediums that can be secure, to see the misleading wrong stuff that others posted and the insulting labelling was sick.

JohnG. I also respect Lance Armstrong and I've seen him riding twice. My post was re silly comments made about Twits and Bumbook. Even Dustydogs comment about keep off FB and Twitter "You never know who's watching you" is also grossly misleading and spreading mis-information. How does anyone know who you are on FB or Twitter? Set the controls correcty the same as PC sets controls re posting here and you can't go wrong.

They may well be wrong by miles
Their comments may also be misleading but the anonymous millions that you feel that the forum members mentioned by you have insulted or subjected to rudeness are not my main concern, the members of this forum are.
It's ok to disagree with the other members and state your point of view but you need to adopt a less agressive and inflammatory style if you intend to use this forum to inform others about things may be wrong or misleading in your opinion.
