toaster tripping power supply

I bought a new toaster to use in our van but it trips either the trip in the van or at the supply post. It sometimes does a couple of slices fine then fails for the next two. It's nothing fancy just a basic two slicer. I seem to remember having the same problem years ago with a previous van/different toaster. We hav'nt had the van long so havn't used a toaster with it before. At the time of the fault we had no other electrical appliances or heating on and there wasn't another van on the same post so it can't of been overloading the circuit. Is it a common problem or a faulty toaster.?

Any ideas?

Paul
