Toilet Chemical.Any Advice please

Hi.Weve been using that pink toilet chemical for a while now but find it sometimes leaves a black residue around the pan.
Does anyone have any suggestions as what to use.
A middle of the road price and maybe with a nice smell?

The best thing to use in the flush is plain ordinary water, no additives, no chemicals.
The pink additive is one of the main causes of black algae in the flush water, which can get so bad it will wreck the flush pump.

If you want a nice smell in the bathroom, use an air freshener in solid form.

There is no reason for the toilet to smell if normal housekeeping is employed with the exception of using bleach or abrasive cleaners as they destroy the seals.
A spray with Dettox or similar should be enough.

the best stuff i found is lemon jiff the stuff you put on pan cakes a squirt in your wa ter cuts thruough lime scale and smells nice and is cheap had some out of date at home so squirted down the loo and it got rid of all lime scale and any stanes.

I may give the lemon jif a go as sounds a good alternative to pink, we use a lot of the pink in our tank but it has not discolored anything.
I have just brought some green for the bottom bit just to give it a tryout.
PS. is there a spell checker on this?

I tend to agree with Damian on this but I guess its each to his own.
I did go to the Caravan show last year and bought the Onechem to try and I have to its very pleasant as aroma goes.
I also have tried dealers own and found it to be Elsan and find that is very good but time will tell, really dont think there is much to choose from in top flush chemicals.

For years we used Theftford blue and pink. The cistern was constantly full of black algae. We then changed to Elsan .
The blue seems to have better chemicals for disolving solids than the Thetford. Formaldehyde? Maybe.
The pink Elsan has cleared out all the black algae for good. No residues in tank or bowl.
Now I never thought of using no pink at all. I'll try that Damien when the last of the pink is used up.

We have caravanned for 28 years and full timed for nearly 3 years now, so as you can imagine I've been quite "attatched" to our cassette. Well every three days to be precise.

We use elsan pink in the flush and elsan blue in the tank. It works out as the most economic as we use 1 litre of pink to 4 litres of blue. I've never had problems with any black algie or sedament in the flush tank or pump. I wonder if the algie might be a bi-product of the tank being left standing un-used for a long period before re-use. Or could it be from any flushing/tank cleaning chemicals used.
Our tank doesn't get left standing as such and the constant exchange of chemicals probably keeps it algie free.

Thanks for all the replies.
I think i will go with Steveinleos advice to begin with as we still have quite a bit of pink and blue left and hopefully,the black bits were remnants in our old cassette an will not re-appear.
If not,will go along with Damiens recommendations.

I've tried bio wash liquid as flush this year over about 8 weeks. Very pleasant fresh smell, and much nicer at emptying time. Seemed to complement tank fluid, but I believe some people use bio wash as their cassette fluid too. Flush tank has had no black bits, and bowl is always clean. I used half recommended dose for normal wash, in one tank full. No damage to seals noted: I assume if the liquid can't damage a washing machine seals it must be safe?

We use the pink and blue but after reading Damian's advice, when the pink runs out, we'll just use plain water.

My Uncle tells me his toilet flush is taken from Swift Motor home's onboard fresh water tank. So there is no way he could ever use pink stuff.
Now I'm wondering why any of us use the pink??

We used powder sachets from Holland. V good
Never have used full rec'd dose of blue or pink, wash the holding tank out regularly and make sure it's open and dry when not in use.

Algae needs light to grow ,look how thin and transparent the water flap is?
Always used Thetford pink and blue and never had a problem and its left full all the time, some seem to and some dont,pink is a lubricate and the pump will rust up with just water.
When Thetford pink and blue for £9.95 made it even better value.
