Toilet Flush Failure

My Lunar caravan is fitted with a "Dometic" toilet flush system and it has failed at just 22 months.

I always travel with the tank empty, has this caused the pump to dry out and fail or is it just bad luck.

My dealer has replaced the faulty one with a "Whale" self venting are these any better.

I think the pump is in the tank containing flush water and not in the main tank containing you know what.
While it is usually desirable to empty the latter before towing most of us don't empty the flush tank apart from a good clean out once or twice a year or if laying up over the winter.

If you know when you are leaving home or a site you can judge the refill of this tank accordingly so as to travel with a minimum of liquid to avoid the pump running dry, as this should not make all that much difference to the noseweight and balance of the caravan given all the other variables of moving on.

The holding tank is much bigger and again most of us will empty this just before departure and add the necessary blue liquid. The unit is then available for use at the lunchtime stop or whatever.

The control of the flush pump is sometimes on the same switch as that for the main outside pump and it is good practice to tow with this switch OFF.
