Can you use ordinary toilet rolls in the caravan toilet or do you need the special rolls which the caravan places sell.

We use the cheap stuff from Lidl, but its your choice, a lot of people use normal just less of it, and other use the proper loo roll that is made for thetford toilets, which I think is too expensive for what it is, its loo roll.

We use the cheap stuff. The thick and quilted branded versions (nice as they are on your nethers) fill up the loo too quickly. Although, as you have banned number 2s in yours it shouldn't matter too much,

Have heard of people clogging up using ordinary, but the cheapo probably less likely. The proper stuff is supposed to degrade more effectively but with five of us it doesn't get much of a chance to in between emptying! (Not that it's my job to do that!!!) We as you've probably gathered use the proper stuff.

Through many years of chemical WC research I have found that the proper Thetford stuff is over priced. However my research found Andrex to be very good in these loos and much cheaper than the approved stuff.
Word off Warning don't even think of Izal yes you can still get it, who remember this from school?

Izal was known at our school as John Wayne
Because it was rough, it was tough and it took no cr@p from anybody

Always had to make sure you didn't use the shiny side with Izal else the skids took on a new meaning. It was still in use in the 70/80s at the ambulance station and some wag had written on the back of the toilet doors "In the interest of economy please use both sides of the paper".

We buy whatever paper is on offer at the supermarkets.

It's definitely no to the John Wayne paper then. OH has been and bought the expensive stuff only 2 rolls so it's not too bad.

I think you may find your OH has been penny wise pound foolish.

You see the Thetford paper imo is very thin and is prone to what in the tissue trade is known as "the poke through" factor. Thus to keep the clingons away from your fingers you'll probably need four sheets to one wipe rather than say two conventional tissues.
Thus the cost rises and the chance of blockages, although rare, also increases.

IMO use the ordinary stuff as suggested by Lady Mel.

I'd also use Elsan Blue rather than Thetford's own ans the chemistry is different and Elsan sems to disolve evrything fairly rapidly. So no horror stories when you empty it

We used to call Izal "skid paper" when I was a kid.
On a seperate matter. we tried the One toilet chemical. didn't like it; made the loo smell fishy.

I remember the Izal but alas no bog paper in the loos at all
You had to ask the teacher for it and yes she gave you TWO SHEETS OF IZAL
Fold it, fold it, fold it again and then fold it again

Once up, once down and a polish

We find that Tesco own brand toilet paper doesn't clog the loo, and unless the site insists that you use a green toilet chemical I wouldn't recommend the Elsan green which we tried once, never again.
It's the loo chemical equivalent of Izal

At the moment we're using Towsure blue because it was on special offer when I went to Towsure but normally we use Elsan Blue.
Fill the casette cap to the top mark, add to approx 1 litre of water already in the cassette from when you emptied and cleaned it and there will be no smells or unpleasantness at emptying time.

There's a much easier way to ensure no blockages and it's very economical at the same time, use old postage stamps, all you do is get the stamp and fold it in half then fold in half again, you then tear off the corner and put the piece you tear off to one side, open out the stamp and there will be a hole in the centre, poke your finger through the hole and then use that finger to do the required wipe at the rear, you then slide the stamp off your finger which in turn will remove any material collected and drop it in the loo, the little piece you put to one side you then use to clean under your finger nail, absolutely no chance of blocking the loo and your recycling used stamps.
