Andrew

I purchased a TOM TOM UK XL a few months ago and find it excellent. I wanted one with a large screen. previously I had one built into the car. I did some asking around before I purchased the TOM TOM. The main difference is the screen layout. They say that it includes free downloads but it is just the first download of maps and traffic cameras. You will need to subscribe if you want regular updates.

Good Luck

"Which is the best!, now that's a loaded question.

From a simple mapping point of view, the garmin uses navtaq mapping which is regarded as superior to the tele atlas mapping used by tom tom. so the "experts say".

My advice would be to buy the latest type with traffic info build in. [tmc] Whilst its not perfect the number of times I have found that it saved me becoming part of a traffic jam, has made it something I would not be without now.

Hi Andrew

I looked into this recently and was advised that the Garmin was a far more reliable product. But it was Halfrauds telling me that!

I use the S90 navman which is very quick at getting your route and on lomg drives the traffic alerts are great. Only downside is after a few days it drops your phone connection. Remember to try about with prefrence settings on routes that you know to get the best setup for when you tow. (no silly farm tracks). Also Navpic is great for when you get to a site take a photo as you drive through the gate and it is then dead easy to navigate back to.
