I have seen that Akebar near the yorkshire dales is advetised uder the top sites, however i have to disagree with this i stayed on this site for easter last year, and had trouble with the neighbours and they kept overloading the power and we kept on having power cuts and on the easter sunday on returning to the park discovered the awning had been pulled off the caravan and 1 pole was snaped, I then decided to return to the site in July one the weekend of the pickering floods (not knowing there were going to be floods) i went down with a friend and we both parked up infront of the pond and on the second night there were only 4 caravans onsite which was us and thev two caravans behind us, but on the second night we had been sitting watching tv and went to use the water to discover the aquaroll had been stolen but luckily we had a spare, but the following morning we had to leave site as we did not feel safe and i went and reported the theft to the site management who did nothing, they did not even know what an aquaroll was, so i just got a refund for the nights we were not staying and we left and as it was heavy rain the caravans were getting stuck luckily i managed to tow one caravan off site but the other being towed by a vauxhall astra estate was getting stuck and the people whom had nicked the aquaroll help push the astra off site to get rid of us. I would never return to this site and i emaailed the site on return from holiday but they never replied.

Hi

I know what you mean about the top 100 touring sites review. I'd be interested to know who actually reviews them and when they stayed there.

We once stayed at a site in Wales which always ranks highly. However, for various reasons, we would never stay there again.

You were actually lucky to get a refund for the nights you didn't stay, a lot of sites won't do that.

Hi Andrew.

The Top 100 Parks 2008 listing was compiled for the first time, completely by reader feedback. All the sites were voted for by readers.

In previous years, site inspectors attended each site and rated them based on the facilities, cleanliness, security and so on. The problem with this was that smaller sites with few facilities couldn't make it into the listings, whereas huge 'theme park' style sites could, despite many caravanners finding them unpleasant. Also, if the site inspector didn't like a certain type of site, it was always going to struggle.

By letting readers nominate and vote for their chosen sites, the results this year are very different to previous listings, but there will always be differences of opinion. There's at least two sites in which I'm not that keen on but evidently there are others who don't agree and voted for it...

Sorry to hear of your problems on a Top 100 site, but hope that when the voting opens for 2009 in a couple of months, you get to vote for your favourite.

Regards
