We have friends visiting from Australia in July. This will be their 3rd visit and we are looking forward to it. They will be with us for a week before going back to London to start a tour. Then will have another week in Germany.

Just looking at their itinerary made me tired. What do others think. I have told them we will take it easy with them as they will need the rest.

On previous visits, they have already done Bath, Stratford, Liverpool and Chester,

I did something equally intensive one bank holiday weekend for my cousin from Australia but that was only 4 days - that intensity over 20 days without any veto over stops or itinerary sounds like hell.

Here is a further source which agrees with the Britannica one I quoted above, first Australia, (complete). At 7,741,220 km2

Then just Western Australia, 2,527,013 sq.km

Europe's recognised surface area covers about 9,938,000 sq km

About 4 time bigger than Western Australia.

However, Australia is indeed big. I remember turning on a Sat Nav, it just gave one instruction. “In 102 miles, veer left’. After that it changed to a similar second instruction.

I used to have a basic satnav like that here - when getting on the M6 Jct 12 to go up to the Highlands the instruction was - follow motorway for 280 miles then take slip road onto M73 - modern satnavs have lane guidance instructions at shorter intervals. In those days the A74(M) nd M74 were expected to be renamed as the M6 all the way to Glasgow but devolution came along.

The thing that struck me flying over OZ was that there’s plenty of space to put down in the event the aircraft has a problem. Not so flying over Canada with the forests and Canadian Shield. 😂

......its common for drivers to wave and acknowledge oncoming drivers on roads away from built areas.

Make sure nothing is coming the other way when overtaking these....
