Hi all.

Wonder if anyone can help.

I have toured Europe many times with my Staffie X Lab and have not encountered any problems, we travelled in ignorance and he was never questioned.

Sadly he died and we now have a wonderful Full pedegree and Kennel Club registered Staffie.

We have all the jabs/docs and intended setting off again in May.

Reading Caravan Club services mag it appears that a lot of sites do not permit cat 2 Staffies.

The regulations regarding registration of these dogs at Maries and Municipalities also seems very difficult.

Has anyone toured these countries with a Cat 2 dog, if so could they give me any idea as to how difficult it was to comply with the required documentation or in fact did they actually not bother. Also how difficult was it to find camp sites, in all of our previous travels we were only twice asked the type of dog.

Many Thanks Ian

Hi Phil..

Thanks for your input..

I have checked extensively all aspects of a Staffie in France.

It comes in 2 " Dangerous Dog" catagories.

1.Cat 1. All Staffies and Staffie X prohibited as Dangerous Dogs along with many others.

2.Cat2. Staffies with full documented pedigree accepted into France but only accepted on some sites.

No problem as Our Stella is a Cat 2. France OK having checked with the embassy but checks to the sites we wish to use are needed.

However Spain is a country which is most definitely hedging its bets.

Not only does it state staffies are not permitted along other named breeds but also states any dog showing breeding charactics of the prohibited dogs.

e.g Stance, Weight, shape of head, agressive nature Etc.

As I have said we have travelled extensively for 5 years within Europe including Spain with these regs in place taking a staffie X lab and were only asked his breed on 2 occaisons. When I stated Lab X we had no problems and never asked to produce docs to verify this.

As with most things in Spain, until there is a problem it is very easy going with its legislation BUT when it goes wrong there is a law to cover it..

I would really love to hear other peoples experiences before I undertake this trip.

Again Thanks Phil...

Regards Ian

My mistake. My Staffie owning neice informs me the French may be a bit po-faced about staffies but allow them in provided they are a full pedigree and the cerification/KC registration are available for inspection. Have a good trip. Regards, Phil

Hi Phil.

Thanks again for your input.

I feel better now that I know someone has toured with the staffie.

Do you know if she informed the local Maries and obtain the necessary paperwork or did she rely upon the passport and KC registration.

As I have explained, it would be really difficult to register at every stopping point especially when touring rather than having a holiday base.

Ian,

She has not toured with the Staffie but is planning a trip later this year. Initially, she was told her staffie would be class 1 but with the pedigree, etc it is class 2. She is not intending to register, once through border control. I accept this does not increase your piece of mind but as a 'westie' owner I do not share your worries.

Regards

Phil
