For me, the bottom line is what do Ineed insurance for? .
When the time comes that I can no longer get comprehensive travel insurance, that will be the day I stop travelling abroad. Four years ago when I was in Spain for the winter, a caravanner who was on his own (like me) hadn't been seen around the site. He was eventually found by his immediate neighbours on the floor of his van having suffered a stroke. He was taken to hospital where he received excellent care but eventually it was realized that they'd done all they could.. It transpired that he didn't have insurance to get him back to the UK.. Neighbours who visited in hospital were pressured but couldn't take responsibility for him and his two sons in the UK apparently declined to help.
