Tow ball paint

I had a new tow bar fitted Thursday, a Witter removable. The removable bit is painted / lacured black, should I remove this paint? from the ball or not. I should have asked the fitter. I have a Winterhoff WS3000 stabiliser.

Remove the paint from the ball part, otherwise you will contaminate the pads on the stabiliser.I used 400 grade wet & dry paper and wiped down with brake cleaner. It is a good idea to clean ball every time you hitch up, to stop contamination of the stabiliser pads.

I answered my own question by talking to a engieer at my local dealer. As peter says you should remove the paint. I found paint stripper good.
