Regards the standard ball and in almost all situations, all depend on how much clearance there is forward of the ball between it and the bumper, if the Alko hitch can clear this while turning to a reasonably sharp angle? then it should be fine.
'Should' because the other and major problem is where the car and van go into a very steep short hollow and the car is going back up while the van is still on the way down. Under these very rare conditions, the Alko head does not have enough clearance underneath at the front and if the route taken is going to include such a deep hollow then no it's not suitable at all. (Originally, the problem was first found on steep car ferry loading ramps, not on normal roads)
The other minor problem and as well as grease, is the soft zinc plating on standard balls, the Alko's friction pads will happily rip the zinc from the ball and the zinc embed itself in the pads, not a problem to operation but will later cause a lot of noise while turning corners.
