Tow ball

Hi, I'm picking up my new caravan tomorrow, I have had the tow bar on my car and electrics checked, but not the ball itself! It is round... nu rust... no big holes... and covered in grease... is that right - I mean should it be greased? or dry?

Thanks!

should be clean and dry with no grease at all if the caravan has a alco stabiliser on grease will contaminate the friction pads on the alco and damage the pads

Hi, thanks for the answers - the caravan is an unmodified 1986 swift corniche 12/2 - so that means a bit of grease okay? No stabiliser I think... did old tow balls and hitches use grease at all?

Matthew, old hitches without friction stabilisers MUST have grease on the towball and hitch.

Al-Ko or Winterhof friction stabiliser type MUST NOT have any grease on the towball or hitch
