We have recently changed our caravan to a twin wheel Bailey Senator Montana. Our towing vehicle is a Mercedes Ambiant as the caravan dips slightly to the front it has been suggested the towball be lifted approx three inches which would level the caravan.Does any one know of a way this can be done safely ?

Jean, if your towbar has several sets of bolt holes and your towball is bolted on the lowest holes, then simply move it up.

If not and you cannot raise the ball do not fit a dropper plate the other way round and raise the ball, this will incorrectly load the tow bar as the load will try to bend the plate.

Other than that make sure the van is loaded correctly and the car has little load in the boot, the more expensive route is to have the cars rear suspension fitted with a leveling kit.

Hi

Thankyou for your info.

The tow ball is on the second set of holes.

and the vehicle does lift up when weight put in the boot.

unfortunatley we can not reduce the weight in the boot as we have a dog cage with two medium sized dogs in it.

But thanks for explaining about the drop plate.

Regards

Jean

DANNY ! HOW THICK IS A DROP PLATE! I HAVE USED ONE THE OTHER WAY UP FOR 5 YEARS FOR PULLING A CAR TRAILER WITH NO PROBLEMS ! THEY ARE 12MM THICK. IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT BENDING A 12MM PLATE YOU MUST HAVE SOME SERIOUS WEIGHT ON THE BALL!!
