Tow Car

We recently purchased our first caravan, Swift Lifestyle 2 berth MTPLM 1230kg, our tow car is a Alfa Romeo 1.8 156 TS, it's as been suggested that it is not considered to be good for towing, as anyone else towed with this model and if so were you happy with it? having never towed before we have nothing to compare its performance with, we are thinking of upgrading at a later date.

That depends upon who said it was not good for towing! The garage told mum & Dad not to tow a caravan with the 89 Golf GTI they had as a second car but its sports suspension, low rear overhang, powerful engine and close ratio gearbox made it an excellent towcar that coped far better than their heavier Pug 405 estate.

aslong as the car:caravan weight ratio is ok and you are within the manufacturers towing and gross train weight figures, I would expect a sporty Alfa Romeo to make a good towcar

Thanks for that Garfield, it's reassuring to know that someone feels our towcar is adequate for the job, after all the jibes of work collegues who laugh at our Alfa Romeo as a towing a caravan.
