tow hitch not level

can anyone please tell me why when pulling my caravan

the tow hitch does not stay centre on the tow ball

it tends to ride to the left or right.

My car is a citreon xantia pulling a early single axle

lunar clubman 4berth

thanks

I can't quite understand your problem. I presume it is happening when the caravan is hitched up to the car but how can it ride to the left or right then? Perhaps you can explain it further.

If the coupling has play to the left or right on the towball, there would be be something seriously potentially dangerously wrong with the coupling.

I've just had second thoughts. Do you mean the handle is not upright but leaning to the left or right? That's not serious. That's got to be to allow for some degree of articulation. Standards require 10

Hi Colin

Lutz is right, I have an old builders trailer that does the same. This is caused because your hitch connects to the caravan breaking system and if like my trailer the shaft is round, this allows rotational movement, with the movement of the hitch when travelling, it always falls either to the left or to the right.

You probably have the B & B type of hitch which can rotate through 360 degrees and is just moving as the van follows the road camber etc.
