tow weights

Hi to All
I have been reading PC for about 12 months now and have finally taken to the forum, I have a 2002 Swift Challanger 480 and tow with a Astra 17 diesel 125 bhp which I have found to be good but I still have a worry about legal weight when carring the awning
Can anyone advise on the meaning of the numbers in my van specifications there are two weights fot the MTPLM DECLARED WEIGHT and POSSIBLE WEIGHT which of these would you use to calculate your tow weight
Cheers peter

Hi Peter, welcome to the Practical Caravan forum.

The tow weight should be calculated from the MTPLM Declared Weight which will be lower than the 'Possible Weight' marked on the plate.
The reason for the two figures is that you can get a weight 'upgrade' from Swift to the higher figure if you apply for one and pay the fee.
Caravan manufacturers state that they dispatch caravans with the lower MTPLM to enable a wider range of towing vehicle owners to use their product but with a heavier vehicle a re-definition of the caravan MTPLM is available.

Hi Peter welcome to the forum. Nice van. Hope to see more of your posts in other sections. We are a friendly bunch.
