towball height

just been out and checked mine on 06 sorento xt it was on a slight slope downhill but when i measured the height it was 450 to center of ball have had no problem towing bailey ranger 470/4 but pick up sterling searcher on fri will this be to high its in the top holes as i read on here (old site) most use the top set.......

Hello Neil,

You will have to check with your car dealer, but some 4x4's are exempt from the tow ball height regulations. If you vehicle is subject to those regulations, then when the loaded trailer is attached as if ready to tow, with the car also loaded with its compliment of passengers and luggage, the tow ball should be between 350 and 420mm ground to centre of ball. Note this does not apply to the solo car with no trailer attached.

If you car is exempt from the regulations, then any height is legal, but if it is excessively high, you may have problem with tail grounding on normal road obstacles.
