HI Kenneth -I too would interested in the feedback -I would like to tow with the Toyota Auris 2.0 D-4D but the towball limit is 60kgs.In the recent towcar of the year awards given out with the C&CC mag it gives the towing 3 out 5 stars, but no comment was made on the low tow-ball limit, although it showed 60kgs in the spec. There must be some caravans suitable for the Auris to tow or why was it tested in the first place?

Only in exceptional circumstances is the towball noseweight limit a decisive criterion for the suitability of a towcar. Although a higher noseweight is always beneficial, 60kg is adequate for most 2 to 4 berth caravans.

The Roomster has a maximum towload of between 900kg and 1200kg depending on what engine it's got. 50kg noseweight is perhaps a bit low, but should be enough for that range.

Hi Lutz and thanks for your comments. The Coachman is never loaded above 1300kgs and so if I adjust the load to give me a 60kgs noseweight do you think the rig would handle okay? Also thought I might fit the AL-KO ATC Trailer control system if

moving the load creates a possible handling problem

It's difficult to generalise. Some cars tow inherently more stable than others and I don't know how good or bad the Auris, in particular in combination with the Coachman, is. The best thing for you to do is to try it and see. If experience makes you uneasy you've still got the option of retrofitting the AlKo ATC, as you say.

We had a Bailey Ranger 510/4 which had an MTPLM of 1200kg which we towed with a Focus 2.0l petrol with a towbar limit of 50kg without problems. It just took a bit of juggling with the van loading to get the nose weight down to 50kg.
