Towcar database

First off, someone shoot me down (and point me in the right direction) if this already exists but...
Wouldn't it be great if there was a database of all cars that included all the useful stuff that us caravanners need.
I know What Car and the like publish loads of stats for consumption, performance, kerbweights, tax and insurance bands and stuff, but none of them include towing weights, towbar noseweight etc. I'd like to be able to look at a list and immediately include or exclude any given car based on whether or not it will tow my 'van.
I know there are frequent discussions on here and other forums about how good a particular car is or how well it compares to another, which is great to get that personal "I wouldn't buy one of them" input, but facts and figures are the best starting point IMO. As good as a car might look and whatever feedback people have, if it won't won't tow a particular 'van then look no further.
Is this too much to ask? And no, I am not offering to build such a thing before anyone asks. Please feel free to point me in the direction of the elusive document that I seek, if it exists.

Try www.Towcars.info this apears to hold a very extensive database & all other usefull stuff....but also appears to be based in Holland so some of the terminology used may be strange....but its all there in one plac, and there is a lot of British contribution.

All the websites offering tow match services are known to have incomplete information, and some information that is actually wrong. It is essential that they have the data for your exact model of car and caravan, (e.g. make, model, year, and designation such a GE SE GLS etc) and that the data is correct. For that reason do not place blind faith in their outputs, use other methods to compare and hopefully verify any recommendations they produce.

I can understand what you are looking for and think it would be terrific but as John says a lot of vehicle are very model specific. There are even some very good towcars that have certain models in their ranges that are not homologated for towing. I once looked at a certain smax model and was told by the salesman it could not be fitted with a towbar due to the bodykit. While a general over view would be good I could see a few potential problems with assumed implied information.

I can understand the caution that is offered here and nobody expects a perfect world ...but the thread was asking is there a database for advice that is all in one place . I too have been checking out towcars and their ablity to tow various rigs and have found it to be a very time consuming effort and as you quite rightly say the info varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.....but someone has gone to the time and patience to put this site together and I have found it extreemly usefull with the info. offered which gives me a damn close insight into what and where I am looking. Further investigation once I have found my target will then give me confirmation or rejection of purchase ... Any research is worth it in the end considering your rig could easily reach £ 40000 and getting it wrong is unthinkable.
