We own an Avondale Pennine S GXL which we tow with a 1998 Renault Scenic 1.9DTI, need to change car and was thinking of a Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTi any advice, can't find any data on them in magazines.

Check the towing weight on the Zafira it is VERY low and may invalidate the guarantee - I went through the same thing when choosing a car and chose the Picasso - it is a very good towcar and gives you 5 good seats although not 7 like the zafira.

I'm not 100% certain of the weights of your caravan but as far as I have been able to ascertain, its MIRO is around 1000kg and the MTPLM is around 1160kg. If these figures are correct, you will not be able to tow it legally with a Zafira 2.0 DTI unless it is well nigh empty. The maximum permissible towload of that particular Zafira is 1050kg. Add to that the noseweight of 75kg and your caravan must not weigh more than 1125kg in total in order to remain legal. If you want a Zafira, you'd be better off with a larger petrol engined version or wait until the new Zafira is on the market with the 1.9CDTI engine.
