I have read through the very long thread about this and have a question, so thought I would start a new thread.
We purchased a new Volvo XC90 1st February 2007. In May we purchased from our Volvo dealer the special XC90 towing mirrors that clip onto the wheel arch and bonnet edge. They work very well. They cost about £90 for the pair.
While in Norway last September a bus clipped one of the mirrors (and just missed the van). the metal back plate was bent, and most of the glass shattered and fell out, despite having a sticky plastic backing.
On our return we went to the dealer to buy a new head. We were told new heads were not available, not even a whole assembly was available, we could only buy a pair, and they had of course gone up in price. We were not pleased and requested the dealer contact Volvo about this and get back to us. We never heard anything more.
So a year on we took the car for service and asked why we had heard nothing. Nobody knew, but they could tell us that , good news, we could now buy a new head for the mirror..........at a cost of £54............yes £54 for one mirror head! We declined.
We had never heard of E marks on mirrors, but I saw them mentioned in a Milenco ad in the CC magazine so I was curious. So I Googled, and this long thread about them on here came up. After reading it all I sent OH to look at the one remaining good mirror, and, yes you have guessed it, it has no E mark on it! Should the E mark be on the glass, or where should it be?
So my question is, did Volvo act illegally in selling us these mirrors?
If the answer is yes, then I presume we have the right to a refund or a replacement with properly marked mirrors?
BTW, we also checked our 10 year old mirrors we used on our old car, which were bought from our caravan dealer, they have no E mark either.
