Can someone tell me what towing mirrors actually stay in place and don't vibrate whilst towing. I have got a Landcruiser 4x4 and so far haven't found a mirror that stays put! How much did they cost and where did you get them. At the moment I'm using Reich chepo ones, and they're useless after a couple of miles no matter how tight I pull the rubbers.

Thanks

Sian

sian.......I purchase a pair of Quest Leisure Products Excellent View convex extending mirrors for my X5 from a local caravan accessory shop. The Quest website should be able to show your local supplier. http://www.questleisure.com/

I found these to be really good because the main mirror fitting fixes with plastic arms (not rubber) for fitting to the main mirror which is quite deep. To tension these fitting there is a tensioning screw. The main mirror holder can remain fixed to the car mirrors whilst away from home so therte is no need to dismantle the entire mirror and fixings every time.

Once on site it is a simple task to just remove the mirrors and mirror arms from the fixing bracket which stays in place.

This makes the setting up for our return towing trip so easy. They are very stable and don't move about at all.

I just bought one of the 'suck it and see' mirrors that atach by suction to the mirror glass and can then be adjusted with your electric mirror. Travelled to Wales and back with no vibration or movement. Thoroughly recommended.

I would certainly not recommend extension mirrors that attach to glass of the car's mirrors. For one thing, they reduce the field of vision in the main mirrors. Secondly, neither the attachment of the glass to the adjustment mechanism nor the mechanism itself are designed to take the additional load. There is a very real danger that sooner or later one of the two will fail.

Hi Sian,

We have a Toyota LC and we don't use extension mirrors. I just adjust the mirrors so I can see the rear corner of the van. We have had no problem either on A roads, single or dual carriageways, and also the Motorways. I bought mirrors to fit over the fixed ones and gave up almost straight away, as I think they protrude to far out and I will end up with a smashed mirror. On the lanes in Cornwall recently I found I had to close the mirrors many times to avoid them been smashed by transit type vans etc.

Thanks everyone so far, the trouble is we've got a big twin axle and without the mirrors its difficult to see to the back of the van and we are going over to France/Spain for the winters and will need them as we will be driving on the wrong side. I'm not too sure about the suck on ones, but I think I'll give the other ones a go.

Be careful that you buy legal mirrors with e marking. The suck it mirrors are illegal and you can be fined up to
